I was wondering if you guys can help me, i had to recharge the battery on my bike. After I did so I decided to go on a ride to make sure it was fully charged. I rode it around for a little while at low speeds and it was doing fine but when I started to go on the free way it struggled a bit, but then it was fine for about a mile or so, then even with the throttle wide open in 5th it started loosing speed so I had to pull over then it died and didnt want to start up again so I had towed back to my place. Now it starts up and rides fine at low speeds (scared to take ot on main roads). Any suggestions of whats wrong?
    thanks- Kyle

sounds like you are not getting enough fuel. Check your float level by the clear tube method and make sure your fuel line is not pinched.

Sounds like a plugged gas cap vent.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of other possible causes as well, but based on your symptom it's a starting point.

You insert a length of clear tube into the float bowl drain and loosen the screw. That way you can see the height of the fuel in the bowl.

I look for the simplest (and cheapest) option 1st. If the bike was ok before, then it's probably not the float height. It could be fuel delivery though. Try running on "PRI" for a while (Put back when you stop). If the fauld goes away it could be the vacuum tap at fault or a leak in the vacuum line.

To check the tank vent, open the cap when you experience a problem - does the bike start behaving?

your symptoms definitely point to fuel problems, but if your battery isn't holding a charge that is another issue. You might want to check volt levels on the battery after a ride, see if the battery is getting charged. I'm not sure why you needed to charge the battery in the first place, but aside from a lengthy sit time, there is no reason it should be drained...

back to the fuel problems. This happened to my bike as well, operated fine at low speeds, and chugged when i shifted past 4th, eventually dieing at a stoplight. My carbs were unbelievably dirty. how long since a last cleaning?
