Does anyone have transmission parts laying around (besides me).

I was inspecting my parts as I was putting my engine back together and 5th gear looks pretty discolored and beat up. Item# 23 on the parts list or part number 16G-17251-00-00 Since it takes an act of congress to get at the darn thing it only makes sense to swap it now.

    The shifting forks look fine.

I have a parts engine, but I'm pretty sure that only needs a valve job so I really didn't want to break that one in half for a single gear.

I seden this today mike DOn't know what shipping would be but it could help you out.( of course now would be a good time to have some hears made with a better cruising ratio) But that would be way involed and too expensive for me.

Mike, I'll try to have the entire tranny packed up and on it's way this weekend. That is if the ribs will let me.

Mike, I was just reading this post and see that you have your transmission apart. Let us know how it goes back together.

It is back together and still spins freely...runs through all the gears so it looks like I might have done something right. (too early to tell though)

    The crankshaft will even turn!

I JUST torqued the head down (thanks for the quick ship on the head gasket Len) and I'm ready to take the existing engine out of the bike and swap a couple parts to this spare.

With any luck I'll be trying to start it this weekend.

Here are a couple pics for those who wonder what the inside of an X looks like

Mike, you look TERRIBLE, and that cough tears me apart just hearing it. I hope you feel better after a couple days of "rest".

    I know.
Unfortunately if I am sick no-one does my work and the crews keep calling with questions....and then the customer gets nervous and calls me so I might as well do a little work and then slip home early (ish)

The wife hasn't yelled at me lately for hiding in the shop so I've got a couple night shifts to work.
