So after a winter long hiatus from the world of XJ's, I have found myself in possession of one once again. This time it's a 198? Seca 750. She has 7500 miles, a fresh (home-done) coat of paint, and runs great.

    Lemme know what you think!

    Welcome back ZZR !!
Looks like an '81 with an '82-3 front rim.
    The mufflers don't look rotted out- - that's a rare find !

    Do all the standard stuff; rear brake check right away;

CHECK THOSE VALVES! it could be untouched and still run strong at that mileage but if that's the case they will all be tight.

    Looks like model car paint.

VIN will give you year look it up in chacal's VIN section.

Ends up it's an '82. I took the valve cover off this morning and threw a feeler down in there, and it was a little on the tight end (if the specs are similar to my 650's) but not enough for me to want to reshim it. I'll check them again in 1000 miles or so.

A thorough inspection alerted me to an oil seep on the left side-cover, so i'll have to get a gasket for that. The tires were put on last fall, and have no wear or weather checking, so i'll probably keep them for the time being.

Unfamiliar with secas, and 750's though i have a few questions....
-What do the two buttons on the instrument panel do?
-How is the rear fairing/brakelight assembly supposed to be held together? (mine is loose and rattling, but firmly attached to the bike).

    Thanks guys!

the rear grab rail has 4 rubber washers. I had to get rid of the grab bar to mount the trunk, but still needed the spacers/ stepped rubber washers.

    Same valve specs.

the two buttons are for the computer's diagnostics system, when the bike is running, you can push the check button twice to see whats wrong with it ant the other button is to shut off the flashing warning light, push that twice...

time, what's the difference between seca 750 rims?

Only a slight difference- - I think '81 rims were "as cast" aluminum, and '82-'83 were painted black. His rims are one of each.
What threw off my guess was the engine color.
Were only the '83's black ??

If you're tail light is rattling around, you may be missing a piece. I took some pics of a spare tail section that I had and some extra pieces. I didn't have the bolts or the metal mounting plate, but I did have the spacers, and bushing.

The taillight is fitted into the cowling, then the spacers are inserted through the mounting points on the cowling and into the holes in the brake light. The bushing goes on next, as shown in the second pic.

You then push the bushing down, and put the mounting place and screws on (not shown)

Yeah that looks to be the problem....I'll go right out and see what I do and don't have back there.

TimeToRide, When all the above mentioned hardware is absent, the tail light just rattles around in the fairing, but doesn't seem like it's going to come out....And that is the problem I am having.

Well, luckily I had all the hardware still on it. [IMG]

So it was a quick case of taking the tail section off and reattaching everything.
