Will a seca exhaust fit a maxim of the same year?

I've got a basket case of a 82 xj750 in the garage right now. The exhaust is toast, and I mean toast. Hole IN the collector, three pipes damaged and the left side exhaust is trash, nothing left to it.

There is a Seca exhaust on ebay for a little bit of nothing. Will this exhuast fit up to this bike? If not, does anyone know where I can get a full exhaust for a decent price for this thing? I've had better luck locating maxim x parts than for this.

Good question. Someone with direct knowledge will have to answer; here's why: The headpipes for both bikes carry the same part numbers; the mufflers ARE different, we know that; but for some reason the COLLECTOR (the box under the motor where the head pipes plug in and the mufflers sprout from) have a different part number between the two bikes.

It may be nothing more than the angle the mufflers exit the box, I don't know; but they're NOT the same PN. On the 550s for instance, they are, so there is something different...

I'm sure it will fit, however the backets to bolt the mufflers to may be different. It's an easy remedy with a short strap to the existing mount. I have the system from an 82 Maxim on my Seca right now with Harley mufflers. Everything fit perfect. Even the collector box lines up perfect and bolted right on.

    Bumping this:

HOW do you adjust the bracket? It looked fixed to me. I'm looking at putting a Maxim exhaust on a Seca.

If I remember right, the mount for the mufflers come off the rear footpeg bolt. You will probably need to lengthen it or shorten it, depending on the muffler location. I used 3/4" aluminum flat stock to mount my mufflers. I just polished the aluminum to look like chrome before installing them and they looks great. Good luck!

    i have a 1980 maxim 650 and a 1982 650 seca and a 1982 maxim 750
the 82 exauhst are the same becuase the kick stand is foward more and the brackets will mout up the same if you try to install the exhaust from a 82 seca and a 80 maxim the mounts are the same and the mounts will work but the kickstand is further back so the exhuast wont work. so the exhuast for sam years will work but 80 82 wont i know you have same years just letting everyone no my experiance.

I'd like to see pics of that.

Back to topic...same as others have commented; I have what I believe to be a 4/1 system for a Maxim on my Seca. Had to make and extension piece for the rear mount.

On aftermarket exhaust systems, the answer is yes, because there is no collector box, although some fabrication of a muffler mount bracket may be needed.

The stock collector boxes have, as Fitx noted, different output angles for the muffler pipes. In particular, the output angle for the Seca mufflers is much greater than on Maxim's; that is why on all of the 550, 650, and 750 versions, the Seca mufflers have a kink (bend) of about 20-degrees or so in the muffler can itself; that bend brings the muffler can "back" into parallel alignment with the bike frame, footpeg bracket, muffler mounting point.

Install Maxim mufflers on a Seca , and those straight maxim-style mufflers will fly off into space, away from the bike.........because the Maxim (straight) mufflers don't have the kink to bring them back towards the bike.

Install Seca mufflers on a Maxim (or with a Maxim collector box), and the ands of the "bent" Seca mufflers will want to attack your rear tire......

Obviously, it's hard to make comments about the 650's, as the Maxim had no collector box, and their mufflers are quite long compared to other models, but the same generalizations hold true.

I just purchased a set of 4 - 2 seca exhaust for my 82 xj750 maxim. What do I need to do the install? Just a set of 4 gaskets? I only have the seca flange and not the maxim ones.... any help appreciated.

This looks like a MAC exhaust same one I am using just the gaskets is all you will need to install this will slot right in . Do you have the mufflers ? The MAC have a kick up angle and mount to the bracket hangar . If you use slip ons all you need is to fabricate an angle to the pipe
