sometimes if I open choke the right way..she will fire instantly and fast idle, usually on cold days.On warmer days..it won't work the same.It is like I should hardly give her choke and start bike with throttle opened a bit to fire up..but the idle stays low.I have to feather throttle until she warms up.What is the cause here..check enrichment circuits for sync.
Sometime also bike will start up fine on all 4 cylinders, other times on 2 cylinders.I have to pull plug caps and hold over plugs, rev motor and she will fire up and then replace plug....is this a carb issue? I do have spark, battery is new and charged.Have to look into this quickly because have a guy coming down in a few days to look at the bike to buy.Any help here would be GREAT!!!

    thanks again guys.

Do that carb cleaning you asked about. Pay close attention to the enrichment circuit (choke) when cleaning...

even after carb cleaning, with choke fully on..it will fire up and stop.I am thinking it should fire up and run fast idle.Doesn't matter where I place the choke lever.Unless it is 0 degrees maybe, but anything over 50 F I just hold throttle slightly open and start it.Have to keep throttle moving to get it to warm up to stay at a steady idle then. After a minute or two I can get my idle perfvect at about 1000 rpm.Must be the nature of the beast I assume.

Haven't had mine that long but from what I've read they are all cold natured. I open mine and when it starts revving up start shutting it down. Could be wrong here but "nature of the beast" pretty much covers it...

yeah I thought I read it somewhere on here that a lot of guys don't even get on the choke to much when starting.Once you get used to how your Bike reacts to choke..then you basically follow the same pattern every time.

My 700 is very cold blooded. i give it full choke and when the idle starts to go up i back it down little by little until the cylinders feel almost hot.

if I choke my fully it will fire up and die out from being to much choke I guess.

tried it again this morning. If I choke it about half way and crank the motor it will start running and then I give it some throttle to keep her running and slowly cut choke off..not to bad I guess.

Unless it's something in the enrichment (choke) system, possibly a quirk to your bike(?)...

I cleaned out the enrichment passage real good in the bowl..it was spraying cleaner out when I used compressed air.Just checked my plugs and they are soot black, but basically all I am doing is running it on the stand.A good ride on the HWY should show me more after a run.Checked compression and she is great....#1--148 #2--145 #3--148 #4--149.... only off like 2% on #2..Only concerned if it were off like 10%.She be what she is..has always been the same from when I got the bike.Only put on like 12,000 km's on it since 1996. She revs up really strong..sounds great.

Sounds like it's rich but maybe it's like you said, run it on the highway. Also heed the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't try and fix it" ...

Did you get this sorted out yet? I just attempted to start mine for the first time today. I put on full choke and it started up without too much trouble. Then I held the throttle open a bit to keep it running and backed the choke down. When I attempted to let it idle it died on me. Then it won't start back up for a bit until I let it rest for awhile. :D Oh, the joys of figuring out your bike.

yep I think I got her figured out. I just opened choke just a tad.Turn the key and she fired right up.Gave a little throttle and she runs at around 1100 rpm. Then backed choke off and flipped throttle until she ran smooth idle.If I open choke full..it will attempt to run,but die out.I think if it was like 0 F or colder,I would attempt more choke.

I think my issue was a bad throttle cable. It was broken up by the grip. I don't think it was allowing me to adjust my throttle position knob (idle screw...whatever you want to call it) far enough in. I am in the middle of replacing the throttle cable right now. I'm trying to beat the rain.

I was able to tweak it earlier and get it running and idling, but then it was hanging when I twisted the throttle.....again....leads me to believe all my issues were due to the shitty cable. Luckily the guy that sold it to me gave me a new one :D

What am I doing in here when it is about to rain???? I'm retarded....

    thanks
