i'm having an ignition issue. put the test light on the wires going into the coils and they have juice, but i'm getting no spark whatsoever from the plugs. could it be a bad ground? or are my coils gone bad?

there are testing procedures and specs in your owners manual for the coils so you can test them, also if you search coil wires there is a great how to on changing your wires check it out I've done it and it was fairly easy and worked very well
    good luck

there is power going into the tci and none coming out, the headlight is not working at all because of the wire coming out of the tci has no power

your going to have power to the coils feeds off a different soarce you only get about 1.5 v0lts out of the tci wich is just to trigger the coils when the pick up tells it to like a set of points. did it loose spark all of a sudden? do you have access to a meter so you can check the resistance in the coils .if you can give me an idea when and the circomstances i can point you ijn the right direction and what year and model bike you have. i learned alout in the past few years on yamaha ignition systems. cant promise you anything but will try and pinpoint it down a bit for you. 1 thing yamaha had was bad grounding to the tci if they sit for long periods they have problems

well the blue wire coming out of the tci goes into the wiring harness, tavels up the frame and up into the left switch housing, then turns to yellow and green wires and goes down to the healight, and when i put power to it last night the headlight lit up.

    Re: ignition/coil help

yes it did lose spark all of a sudden. it ran when I parked it about a month ago and now no headlight or spark, but everything else checks out. Yes I have a meter, so which wire coming out of the TCI is the trigger?

    It's an 82 xj650 maxim

if at anyway possible could u tell me what each color wire should be doing, because i don't understand why this blue wire is feeding the headlight anyway? I think someone may have rewired the bike before me but I don't know

thanks for any help. I've been tracing wires for a week straight now to get to this point!
