I am running an XJ900F trike with the standard XJ900F handlebars on.
Has anybody ever fitted different handlebars to this type of bike, that save you from having to lean forward.
Let me try to explain a little better.............................
The XJ900 to me has been designed as a sport tourer with handlebars that pull you forward into a racing sort of position. The handlebars come in pairs and have a serated edge mount that marrys up to another serated edged mount on the top yoke.
I am thinking of replacing this system with a more sit up and beg type handlebar (like a cruiser style) but I don't want to take too much of the sporty look away from the bike.
I have looked on ebay and found a top yoke from an XJ900 Diversion
[IMG] and was wondering if I could replace the original top yoke with this one, and then add normal handlebars.

Umm my question is why do you need to replace the top yoke is it damaged? or welded onto?

XJ's use 7/8" handle bars just go to ebay or a bike site like bike bandit or dennis kirk and type that in.

Heres one i found that has a little more pull back but has more cruiser then sport style.

Hi Kreshen, the top yoke of my XJ is like the picture below. It has 2 molded in serated edged "things" that each of the handle bars is located onto. Each handle bar (and there are 2 as a set) have an identical "thing" molded onto it, and these sit onto the yoke ones, and are then bolted down with a bolt through the centre.
I would need to replace the top yoke because of this with a yoke like the previous photo, one that has the double bolt clamps to clamp the handle bars down.

Yes, my Seca had the two-piece bars on them (too ugly and uncomfortable) so I had to replace the top tree with one from a Maxim so could use risers on them and more conventional handlebars. I ended up with Goldwing bars on it. I am able to move them back for a better riding position now. I believe they have a 10" rise which gives plenty of reach and are adjustable in my reach range.
Just an FYI - the old tree clamps can be cut off and sanded down and painted, for use as fork mounts if you need to mount something to the top of the forks (ie: windshield brackets, signal light mounts, etc.)

Can I just ask though, does it make the bike look odd with swept back bars? have you got any photos of yours with these bars on?
I'm really used to having cruiser sit up and beg bars, like my last trike, an Virago XV750.

Well yes I do as as matter of fact! But, I not only wanted more comfort, I also wanted mini apes, not full high ape hangers. So I mounted mine on 4" risers I made. Now with the 10" rise on the Goldwing bars, plus the 4" risers, I have 12" height. My arms are straight out, even with my shoulders when sitting on the bikes (maybe more height than your looking for?) But they are very comfortable for me and not too high at all.

    Here's what mine look like:

Bloody hell, how cool does that look!! That certainly answers my question. :D

I do have a few more questions though.
    1)are they speakers I see?
2)is the item on the left side of the bars a spittoon, ashtray or somewhere to put the Coke bottle?
Excellent, cheers for those photos PainterD

    Thank you!
Yes those are the old speakers there (old photo) I now have 5-1/4" speakers in black housings (less noticable) mounted on the back of the windshield and a small 300w amp mounted under the tank to power my Walkman stereo. That baby ROCKS!!
That's a cup holder mounted on the left handlebar. That's also been replaced with a new one that's covered in black leather with chrome accents (better looking)
All in all, I like how things work, but it looks kinda cluttered. It's basically my work bike and not for show anyways.

Yes, the black speakers I have now are against the backof my windshield, so they are not as noticable as the chrome ones I had on before.
I guess it's true, you probably can hear the radio over the sound of the mufflers when I meet you on the road. It all depends, if I'm out on the highway I sometimes have it cranked up a bit.
