Has anyone tried retrofitting another kind of ignition coil into these bikes? I know there is an aftermarket set (Dynacoils?). There's gotta be a better/cheaper option.

You can try the heavy duty coils that are sold by Mikes XS. Lots of guys on the XS web site have had really good success with them and they cost a whole bunch less that the Dana's

I am waiting on a set of coils and wires from Accell. I hope they will be here soon, cost 150$ for the kit. Kit has coils wires and mounting brackets. I'll let you know how they work out.

be careful with the Accell coils.I read on the web that Accell didn't correspond the right part numbers for coil replacement. This was a while back mind you. Some guys were burning their cdi units.

I have heard of that problem before. I will check the coil resistance before I proceed with the installation. I do think I will have to remove the ballast resistor from the coil circuit. So far I think the stock coils are 1.5 ohm and the resirtor is also 1.5 ohm, the Accell coil should be 3 ohms.
