Ok, I basicly know the idea but how do you keep the set 1 to 2 lbs on the bearings and tighten the pivot shaft? I can't insert the hex key with the socket on the washer.

Hrm - this isn't a case where the Kawi valve tool would be nice? It's got an open ended socket that you can stick a screwdriver through...

    Sorry - don't know.

Thanks Steve, I'll give that a try.

Actually - what size socket do you need? Chainsaw socket-wrenches are 13 mm and are typically open toped so you can stick a scewdriver down them... I'd imagine these would be cheap enough - they come 'free' with any new saw and I'm sure I've seen them in hardware stores.

Woot. it's a 27mm socket. That would be one big chainsaw! I tried Steve's idea and I think I have it right. Took it for a test ride and all seems fine. Glad I replaced that ujoint. It didn't fail like I expected it to. Instead of being loose at the joints it actually froze at one axis.
