Working on a 85 XJ 700 Maxim I'm currently running 2 small led accent lights as side marker lights over the top of the engine. I have them wired off the battery to a toggle switch but, what I would like to do is have the power source be a keyed switch source so that A I don't leave them on accidentally and B someone else doesn't turn them on for me and run down my battery. Where would be the best place for me to do this?

splice into the blue that goes to the tail light, that will come on with your riding lights & be controlled by the ignition switch. (I hope it's blue on your bike)

If there only led lights you would have to leave them on an awful long time to kill your battery.

I use relays to power all my accessories. That way when you turn the key off, everything is off. Hook one tothe battery and use any switched hot wire to trigger it with the key.

Just a pic of the lights I added. I think I'm going to check into a relay over the weekend. That sounds like the safest route to go.
