Got my quote to be re-insured today...jumped 20% over LY. Yikes! So after a few heated chats with insurers that were frustrating, I found one that provided the same coverage and the same cost as LY. Feel like I dodged a bullet there, even though it's only money. The quotes of $371 to $409 $CDN seemed like a lot of cash!

and you complain about that..that's cheap man!!!.Here in Manitoba the insurance for my xj was nearly $1200 for last year and doesn't include theft or fire. This year the rates are up about 5 to 9 %..Can't afford to ride bike anymore at them rates.Have bike for sale now or will part out.In Manitoba we always get Royally screwed big time by this NDP government..piece of sh*t heads .Now they are raising our sales tax's more..they are NUTS!!!Can I say moire cross border shopping will be going on now that the dollar in on par with US.Sorry to the local business's out here, they won't be hiring extra staff or may even be laying off.

Well, the Co-operators made it work at $316, so I will take that. The NDP have taken over NS and we are in for 4 long years of government torturing the consumer. Debt is a record high after only a few months, taxes up 2% tomorrow, as if 13% wasn't bad enough!

Anyway, this is an oft-battled topic that I should not have re-started. Sorry if this riled up some sore spots - I will count my fairly cheap insurance blessings.

Is there no competition between vehicle insurance companies in Canada or is your insurance nationalized like your health insurance?

My automotive insurer(Progressive a.k.a. Oppressive), where I also insure my Maxim, wanted over $800 per year to provide full coverage insurance (liability, I wreck your stuff, collision, I wreck my stuff, medical and un-insured motorist coverage) for my 2 wheel BMW land yacht. I made one call and my rate my for the same coverage dropped to $330 per year. It saved me just over $500 per year. I just got the renewal in the mail and the cost has changed. The new premium is $270 per year because I was insured with them last year. My current insurer is Foremost. Much much happier!!!

One last thing. In Washington State motorcycle riders are not required to carry ANY insurance. You would be a fool not to but it isn't required. Cross the bridge into Oregon, less than 10 miles from my house and you are required to have insurance. Get caught without it and they will confiscate your bike and give you a hefty ticket!

It's gonna go up. $125 of that is the PER VEHICLE "catastrophic claims coverage" levied here in Michigan.

They just announced it's going up to $143 PER VEHICLE next year. Insurance is required for motorcycles in Michigan, this "per vehicle" stuff is for the birds.

Makes me rethink keeping three or four bikes 'legal.'

One bright light: Hagerty and one of the other collector-car insurance companies have a deal with the Secretary of State that waives a good portion of that on Historic-plated collector bikes, like my Norton.

our insurance is only thru the Government run AutoPac.There is no other place one can go for it.They state the claims are high and every one pays for it equally. If I had a relative living next Province over,I could get them to get it for me and register Bike in their name, some guys do that to save $$$$.I mean the damn Bike costs me more insurance then my whole house and property.I should cancel my House insurance for the year and put the money into the Bike..LOL!!!!!! There are only 3 Provinces in Canada that won't let us shop else where Nationally for Insurance, and we are 1 of them :x

with the debt the US has now and having to pay for HealthCare..only way for government to pay off things is thru taxation.Nothing is free..money has to come from somewhere.Only problem in Canada..we have to many people working for government.I think it has to be cut in half.55% of Canadians pay for 45% of Government.Does that make sense to you.You know how much money that would freeup.Mind you those government people that would be eliminated wouldn't have a clue how to work then. They would be lost and couldn't handle a regular job.It is one big RIP for us hard working stiffs.

My insurance went down from ~$750 to $471 this year. Still too much i think, but it is lower at least. Hopefully I can get down to under 200 next year.

One thing i've been told to check up here, is check what the "farm" insurance companies will rate ya at, They're pretty good apparently.

i just recently had a bunch of issues with my current insurance, so i switched insurers and my payment is down to $95/year for the motorcycle. with all the trouble my previous insurer gave me i guess there's a bit of silver lining to it since i now have better coverage at a lower premium.
