i've noticed a direct relationship between me pulling the front brake lever and the bike dropping about 200-300 rpm. also the blink rate on my indicators slows down when ive been sitting at a light too long at idle, and speeds up again when i blip the throttle. and other electrical stuff is there like the headlight dimming at idle and while pulling the brake lever at idle. does this mean alternator brushes? i have a relatively new battery at around 4 months, new fuse box, and clean connections.

Sounds like your stator needs to be replaced? I don't know but that sounds to me like not enough power is being supplied and when your tail light comes on your electrical system bogs down. I have a v65 magna from 83 and it has a similar issue at very low rpm's. I'm pretty sure it's just a power generation issue.

Have a look in the alternator for sure. Brushes=cheap; get a new cover gasket before you open it up. The brushes mount on the inside of the cover.

Check the brushes for length (they have a wear-limit line cut into them, if you don't see it then they need to be replaced.)

CLEAN everything in there; be careful of the rubber grommet between the case and the wires. INSPECT the brushes carefully, be sure the little braided lead wires aren't turning green from the inside out.
