I noticed that the air box on my xj has a drainpipe on it. I can't find info about what goes on it other than a plastic tube. If Intake leaks are so important to "not have" is there some kind of check valve gizmo for the end of the tube of at least a dust filter?

Is that the pipe that comes from the crankcase to help with emissions or whatever to recycle gases? If not I didn't know there was a different drain...

I have an 82 xj650 and it has a drain pipe as part of the air box molding pointing down and on the "shifter" side of the air box bottom. It is not the crankcase vent tube. I should point out that I bought the air box on ebay so I am not certain of the mfg year of the box althought seller said is was from an 82 xj.

    It's the airbox vent/drain.

I know on the 550s there is a little "element" in there; it appears to be a circle of the same stuff that's used in breather filters. I ordered a replacement some time back using the Yamaha part number, and got a little rectangular block of foam that is NOT the right part.

So I just cut out a hunk of breather filter element.
