1985 maxim x 700 partout

I have an liquid cooled 85 maxim x 700 that i'm going to be parting out, the bike is complete, turns over but doesn't start unless you spray some carb cleaner, i don't have the title and currently needs carbs rebuilt, it sat for many years. the engine will run, the only thing i can't guarantee is the trans, only because i've never got to ride it and test all gears,let me know what you need, i will try and be very reasonable with prices. pics will come soon, my email is safe@epix.net, plenty of good parts

update!!! i just ripped the bike down, yes i did make me sad, anything you need let me know. i added some pics post-teardown

Parts I'd be interested in are:

The "5 valve" carb side covers (one each side) and the chrome over plastic pieces just behind them moving back along the bike.
Ignition coils and spark plug wires and boots.
Front fender...maybe.
Headlight assembly.
The 5 model didn't have a backrest, correct?
The plastic coolant tank.

 

Well....I was gonna yell at you for taking a perfectly good bike apart until you posted the pics. That X has seen it's better days!

I'll take the backrest and spend a day cleaning it up.
Hopefully the other little chrome bits will clean up nice.

I'd be interested in seeing a close-up photo of the yamah emblem right under the headlight. (little black plastic part with silver print)

I know there are a couple members looking for an airbox.
I could use a spare starter if no-one else needs it.

 

i'll try and get some pics for you, i know there is a rip in the backrest pad, i'll try and get some more pics today before it gets dark

 

Actually, I'd be surprised if the pad was NOT ripped. It looks like it went down HARD on the left side. Speedo, tach, signal light all trashed.
Is it still in PA?

 

I might be interested in the gauges, and their covers and faceplate; the petcock, and the mufflers.

 

hey hogfiddles, the guages seem ok but 2 out of 3 of the covers are cracked, and 1 has roadrash, the faceplate is ok. the petcock i still have, and the mufflers are all there could use a cleaning, but don't seem to have any major rust or leaks. shoot me an offer for the parts you want, email me at safe@epix.net.

I'm interested in the handlebars, along with the brake master cylinder and left hand clutch bracket / mirror mount. I'll PM you with my email address, hopefully you can take some pictures.

About the rust on the handlebars, is it just surface rust or more serious?

It will be hidden in my fairing, I seen there was no back on it, if it still functions as a tach i would be interested, if it was cheap enough

 

well i never actually saw the tach work because the bike didn't really run, and you'll have to splice the wires, there plenty of wire attatched, if you want to give it a try send me 10 bucks to cover shipping and its yours

If you still have it, I need the gauge for rpm. Mine has a crack in it, so maybe could make 1 good one from 2.
Also, the handlebar grips from both sides. The switches from the left side, and the metal part that holds the left pillion peg (with the peg too pls)

Now the hard part - I'm in england. I have paypal though and there's online courier people that deliver for cheap prices.

i do still have the 5 -valve covers, each one is missing 1 tab, so you have 4 out of 6 to work with, they could use alittle cleaning up, but aren't in bad shape, 20 bucks + a few bucks for shipping and they're yours.

as for the speedo, it took a hit from the bike tipping, not in good shape at all, from the view of the driver it looks ok but the back is kinda thrashed, also you'll have to splice in the wires, plenty of wire to work with, i never saw it work due to the fact the bike wasn't drivable, but if you want to give it a try, send 10 bucks to cover shipping and its yours(to 48 states)

anyone need anything let me know, have an entire engine/trans, although the bike needed carb work i heard each cylinder fire when spraying cleaner into it, can't tell about the trans, but i really feel you might be able to through it in and go, no guarantees though, also have nice rims, forks, countless other components, tci, starter, wires, about 90% of bike is still for sale , plenty of parts left

 

If it's not too much work, maybe you could list what you still have for sale?

Fuzz, you are in PA right? Is there anything criminally wrong with the engine? Does she turn? How much do you want for the entire engine? I'd pick it up. Let me know, I'll be in PA next weekend

 

nope its clean, i contacted the local state police and ran the vin before i brought the bike home, the last thing i need is trouble. if you want the engine/trans make an offer, i know what they go for even in the current condition, and i've been considering ripping it down and selling the head and other components separately, but if you want it, make an offer

 

sorry, yep she turns over, i had it firing on all cylinders one by one spraying carb cleaner, the carbs were gunked up though, i really think the engine could be thrown in a statrted with good carbs

 

I'll give you $75 for the engine and I'll pick it up. I just bought engine and carbs in PA for $75, so sight unseen, this is a fair price.
