Well we did our long ride through Amish country on Friday. Good thing we didn't keep up with the weather forcast. Otherwise we would have realized there was rain... a lot of rain ahead of us.
We got up to Wildcat Mountain state park, my woman and I and a 30 lb backpack on my luggage rack on my 550 maxim. All held up nicely and she ran with over 300 lbs on her back, up into what we have for mountains here in wisconsin, and didn't give us a single problem. Even with rain pouring down on us. The weather held up pretty good until we got near the park then drizzled so the roads were wet. But still good enough for an easy taken ride through what some call "The little Deal's Gap of the midwest" or "the Baby Dragon". After we got about 10 miles west of the park it poured rain. That made for about 5 hours of riding wet, cold, and, when night fell, blind! It became not just miserable... but in the last hour of the ride, UNBEARABLE! But we are diehards and when it was all over we both agreed that we wouldn't have changed a thing. So here are the video links followed by the pics. Nothing special but we had fun. Keep in mind, the speedo had only 600 miles on it before the trip. Subtract 4 miles for every 60 miles and that is the actual trip.

It rained from that point on. We actually stopped to dry our clothes at one point... notice there are no pics of us in this laundry mat... Haha

So Road Rash made it. But what a mess we made of her...

Definitely check out the videos. They are pretty cool for sure. Not a lot of good xj ride along vids on youtube.

The scenery looked spectacular - a pity about the weather!

Mrs Chuckles did a good job on the video camera.

You better hang onto that one.....and I don't mean the bike. If she put up with that rain and is ready to go again, she's a keeper. Better yet, get her an XJ of her on!!! :)

Mrs. chuckles chuckled at that and said thank you very much. Then I got in trouble because I grumbled about her not keeping it on the road as much as I wanted. Haha. It is definitely a spectacular ride all around. West of the mountain there is hwy 131 and hwy 56. Both are out of this world awesome but we were rained out of enjoying that part. Either way... would be awesome to get a bunch of guys on this ride (by "guys" I mean guys and gals... sorry).

We did this today. Only about 100 mile ride total but through the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive. At the end of this video is where we hit the deer last year. Put me out of commission for almost 2 months (til my leg was out of the cast and the physical therapy had it bending enough to rest on the peg).

And Yama... she is definitely a keeper. And she will be getting something to ride eventually but like 2 up better.

Pink Floyd music.........very cool.........but it gives this terrible sense of forboding, like the video might be leading up to a crash scene, perhaps with you guys going over the edge of the mountain or slammed into head-on by a logging truck in the final scene.............!

Ya... I used part of "Echos" in another video. It gives more of a sense of forboding but with victory at the end since that is where we hit the deer. Haha... and I am still riding through there. The deer... well... poor guy...

That is a good riding story.
My wife won't ride is the sunshine let alone the rain!
How did the pods respond to the extra moisture, given the
    high demand on the motor?

Re: Pics video links of my 400 miles ride thru Amish country

The pods performed way better than I had expected. I had been trying to keep them bone dry and was a bit fearful of them getting wet.
But there is something else that doesn't fare well in the rain and I still havn't figured it out. It happened when i had stock air as well. If it rains the bike sounds like a 4 stroke dirt bike and loses half of its power. Still trying to find that problem... But that's for another thread maybe.

Ya thats what i am thinking. I am not getting water in the motor like I first suspected otherwise i'd have some really cloudy white exhaust. Instead I am getting a noticeable white puff of exhaust like I am not burning everything in the cylinders. I have two things I was thinking. The timing cover isn't fully sealed and water is getting into it. Or, like you said, the coils are shorting out in the rain. I did take off the cover and the gasket I put on there is still good and no evidence of water in there (as far as I can tell) and the coils are testing good and don't appear to be baring in any place. But I need to keep digging.

Nice editing by the way... especially the "Floyd" part. Pink Floyd always works with those dreary days. To top it off, it looks like you had fun despite the weather...

    Great videos!
We rode that area for a week straight and found some interesting sights down there (mini vacation) I try to get down there at least once every years now.
Perfect bike roads in those parts. Can't wait to get back there again. Thanks for sharing!

Pics and videos of your favorite rides, rts and/or adventure

I figured i would recycle this thread. I searched the forums for something like it and didn't find it but I would love to see some of the roads, routes, and even commute rides our xjs have treaded. So if any of you want to jump in with pics, video links, or stories of your favorite routine rides, adventures on the roads, trips, lets have 'em. I know just in wisconsin, alone, I could put a lifetime on my wheels. Would love to see other states and other countries too. Anyway...

Yeah... that must be sweet riding in that area. Warm enough to ride but with snow all over the mountains. I used to have dreams like that.

And I love punk. I am actually thinking up schemes that incorperate a mohawk on my bike when i bob it out.
