    Heya XJers,
I found a few of you orlando folks out there, and figured I'd go out on a limb here and just ask. :D

    Backstory:

I recently bought my Maxim XJ650 (And devoured half the information I could find on this site! Thanks to everyone on here!)

After say.. 7-8 carb "cleanings" and following the advice of everyone here I finally ripped them apart, replaced everything I could buy from Chacal that wasn't metal, fixed a few other parts of the bike and got it running, synced and purring.

Changed the oil, rode it once, and by the time I got home (Maybe.. 20 miles later?) About half the oil from the thing was on my jeans and boots.

Typically, I do all the work to my bike with my roommate, a mechanic.
Unfortunately, he is headed to NJ for a month, and I fly out to Japan for 3 months about a week after he gets back -- and g.d. it I want to ride around a bit in this beautiful weather we've had before I fly off.

Knowing how awesome Chacal is, I'll get the gasket kit I ordered this morning by Thursday or Friday.

Any Orlando XJers with an afternoon off want to teach a kid to replace these valve seals and put humpty dumpty back together again?

    Notes:
Block's in good shape, good compression on the cyls,
ran a straightedge over the head, its not warped
Given that, it looks like all I'll have to do is doublecheck valve clearances on the new camshaft (Yeah, in my haste and newb-ness snapped a cam)
Then top end-rebuild... without havin to play around with the cylinder jugs. Just head, valves, timing, firing it up.

I have all the tools we'd need, (and the haynes manual and the factory service manual.) I think...too many tools. 'Cept maybe the socket-thing you use to compress the valve and remove those clamps.
Figure'd I might just have to buy a cheap socket and cut a hole in it to get a magnet in there.

Beer and some work on the bike is usually a great afternoon off for me.. how about ya'll?

    I hear crickets!
    Better idea, then:
I'll just take a crack at it with my manual!
And take pictures and post it here, so maybe I can help someone else out with my mistakes.

Pshh, I don't know why I was worried.
I didn't take pictures, but I did make a valve spring compressor from an old 11/16ths socket I had... cut a little window to fit a magnet in there.

I get to toss everything tomorrow now and RIDE.
