Did I get a cheap helmet or are all half helmets extremely noisy?

I expect it to be louder than a full face since the ears are somewhat exposed to the wind but this new helmet is deafening.

    Anyone else experience this?

I am thinking, use the half helmet for around town/slower speeds and keep the full face for longer distance/ highway use in the summer.

I wear a half helmet and I get wind noise, but I expect that.
It's wind, and my ears are in it. It don't bother me tho.
    I guess it's personal preference.

Half helmet for half a head. It's a no win situation.

I get it too. The chin strap goes right over the ear and catches the wind. Annoying. But I like a more open feel. It would be nice to know if there is a different setup out there that doesn't catch wind.
I also have a full face helmet for highway and crappy weather. It does the trick, but I feel like my head is stuck in a fish bowl.

1/2 a helmet is better then nothing but IMHO a helmet needs to protect more then your head. Face needs a little help too.

Are there still states which allow bikers to ride with no helmet? Silly Americans!

There is a handful, Colorado being one. I wear one, just prefer the government stay out of it. Just say no to a "nanny" state.

My state does not require one. And in my younger days I didn't. I wear one now but still don't want the gov't to tell me what to do.

The strap is the offending member!!! Started riding back when TN didn't have helmet laws. Didn't wear one then but that was before I realized that not only was I not immortal, I'm not even invincible. You REALLY should wear one but it should be your own decision not BIG BROTHER!!!

When I finish even a short ride with the full face helmet,I can barely hear for a while.Haven't noticed if it's worse with the half helmet.I only use it when it's too unbearably hot for the full,so it rarely gets used.

I have terrible tinnitus (hear very loud "ringing" at all times),so maybe that has something to do with it

I also have both and after thinking long and hard choose to wear the full face helmet. My half helmet is noisy but it is also a half helmet. I also live in Ohio (no helmet law) and am amazed at how many people do not wear helmets. I am happy that it is our choosing but damn put that head in the fishbowl, its doesn't just effect you, you do have a family. Its like anything how much risk are you willing to take.

I made up my mind to wear a full face helmet from the beginning. I just can't see how a half helmet would be of any value in an accident. It's like insurance, you hope you never need it, but you dare not tempt fate and ride without it.

    Just throwin this out there...

In FL its legal to ride a motorcycle with no helmet.
(Must have eye protection, though. I got pulled over for having my visor up on my full-faced)

However It is illegal to ride a BICYCLE without a helmet..

    Figure that one out?

Did the legislators think "well, if you crash on a motorcycle you're as good as dead anyway" ?

You know what I hate the gubmint telling me what to do? EVERYTHING! Like, stopping at stoplights and stopsigns....not going 100 mph down a residential area, and having a vehicle that passes a "SAFETY" inspection. It's my life, right? No one else pays if I'm dead and can't contribute to society, the police and paramedics have to scrape me off the street, my family has to go on welfare because there's no breadwinner, etc. etc.

Without getting into Philosophy of Law, many of our best laws are those that prevent one person from taking a shortcut for their own convenience that is both harmful to themselves and others. Helmet laws are not a case of a "victimless" crime. As everyone who wears one when they don't have to can attest, the benefit of not wearing one is far less than the potential cost.

    i have three helmuts.
    1. open face. (used for commuting to and from work)
    2. full face with flip up chin piece. (used for commuting in winter or when open face is wet from riding in rain)
    3. HJC full face. (used for those nice long weekend rides) (also my pride and joy in helmuts)

we have helmut laws over here to, but to ride without a helmut is shear stupidity. scenery meeting the head at any speed is gunna get you hurt if not dead.

prefer my head in a bowl than on a slab

Although I am guilty of riding without a brain bucket at times, my wife helps to keep me in check with this question...What do you a call a biker who rides without a helmet???

    An organ donor.

It's not a question of if, but when you go down.
