I really hate to do this... I love this bike. I've had it almost a year, and the people on this forum and the XJ Owners list have been fantastic, and have offered way more help that I could have expected to receive. But, I've decided that I just don't have the time, money, and space to make this bike righteous. So, I've decided to part with her. I can't afford another bike right now, but hopefully when I have the money and time, I can find one of these that someone has fixed up and runs really well.

So, first the good. It has about 23,000 miles (I replaced the speedo/odometer with the one from the spare bike, which had 10,000 more miles) and it runs. I've been riding it for the last couple of weeks. It looks pretty nice for an old bike. I recently adjusted the valves. Has good spark, but could use an upgrade to the Dyna coils. Tires only have about 500 miles on them. Carbs are in great shape. And I do have the plastichrome airbox and carb covers. They just aren't on the bike, at present. Not too many rough spots on the bike, over-all. A few rust spots, here and there, but nothing major and no pitting anywhere. Brake pads and shoes are recent with less than 500 miles on them. And I'm including a 2/3 complete identical motorcycle for parts. The spare engine runs great (32,XXX miles). The frame is not titled, though. There are lots of great parts that can be used or sold.

Here's the bad... It doesn't run well. My buddy and I couldn't get the carbs synced using his mercury sticks. We'd sync it up at 2,000 rpm, then it would drop to 1,000 and it wouldn't be in sync any more. And it won't stay idling. The engine has dropped a cylinder, too, so it sounds rough. Not sure what happened, there. It seems to have happened in the last day or two. The liner in header pipe #1 seems to have come looks, and it makes an awful racket when the bike gets to vibrating rough. I was going to screw in a self-tapping screw, but haven't gotten around to it. The tank has one quarter-size dent in it and the interior has been "kremed." The spare tank is pretty good on the inside, though, but it has two small dents.

    Here are the photos:

So, I've spent more than $1800 so far on this bike. As much as I want to see this bike running, I need to cut my losses, here. I'd really like $1,100 for it and for the spare parts bike. Please let me know if you have any questions. I'll be listing this on Craigslist on Monday, so after Monday, it may not be available.

Thanks, y'all. I really appreciate all of you who've helped me work on her.

That's not a bad deal. Pictures of the parts bike would be a good thing. I'd be interested in the parts bike only if you were a shade closer to Norfolk which I'll be in next weekend picking up 3 x's.

I'm betting the reason you dropped a cylinder and the bike won't stay in sync is you've got cracked coils. Mine did the same thing and I got dynas off a forum member and the bike runs like a champ now. No more cutting out, stumbling etc. BUT, that said, I know where you are coming form.

I have an air head I am about ready to dump into the parts bin due to the fact the carbs just will not work right. I've got 1100 into her and it's getting old.

Dang, sure you don't want a fourth PLUS the parts bike? LOL I'd schlep it all up to you in Norfolk, if you're interested.

I'll get a photo of the parts bike later tonight...
