As I wait for my rebuild parts to arrive from Chacal (who btw is a amazing resource!) I'm tending to a couple of the other "issues" with my new 28yr old XJ650 ;)

Guy a bought it from said there was an issue with the run/stop switch so he bypassed it with some funky wiring under the seat but the only way to kill the engine is to turn the key. No biggie, but I'm a purist...would be nice to have it all functioning. The starter button works on the assembly, but not the kill. I found a new switch assembly and throttle sleeve (mine was near shattered) on Ebay for $30, so picked it up and waiting for it to arrive as well.

As I was removing the starter switch assembly and removed the headlight housing, I found this severed harness with two wires in it.

Any thoughts as to what this 2-wire assembly is for? the harness is a 2 tone green, two wire lead as seen in the pics.

    Thanks in advance, Adam

I think if you were to examine all the Quik-Connects in the Headlight Bucket, ... you'd find each one for a "Ignition Function" is different colored and different patterned.

If the Male and Female Connections go together ... you got the right ones.

Non-Running Accessories just have Bullet and Barrel Splices.

Hey Rick, but the wire was snaked down out of the head lamp assembly under the forks and physically looks cut...gotta be for something me thinks...

in-conclusive...horn sounds like its working - assuming one side is the high and one is the low. I can feel the one vibrating for sure...dunno. Need more wine...:)

I have a 82 xj1100 max that just happenes to be apart and the green connector is to the clutch sw. on the left handlebar. if that is any help I don't know if it's the same on your bike. the wire are L/Y blue wire/yellow trace, B/Y black wire/yellow trace on my print for the bike.
    best of luck

Hey Bob, thanks...dumb question but isn't the clutch all mechanical? Didn't know there was wiring to it...aside form the cable. Upon inspection - looks like the handle lever for the clutch does have a wire hole on the top...and its emply...What would the wiring to the clutch do?

It allows you to start the motor when in gear by pulling in the clutch.

Jotr on mine it looks just like the brake sw on the right handlebar w/ diff wires & connector but both are the same sw just in case you need to make something work, but I think you can get them . Wire B/Y goes to the Starter circuit cut-off relay so it mite be what was by passed and the root of the problem RUN/STOP. Again I got 1100 you got 650 ? IDK
Oh yea that wizard fellow is as usual 100% right

Jotr------the green connector shells you have pictured are for the clutch hand lever switch, just as vegabob described!

Sweet, thanks gents. May explain why my left signal light doesn't flash when the key/switch is on...found a wiring diagram and there is a common circuit it seems...

I cannot wait to ride the bike again. I'm driving my wife crazy!!! hahah good that I have something else to ride...but right now..its the hot 28 year old I want! :)
