Ok, I for the most part can learn everything I need by reading other peoples posts. Now I’m stuck. A while back a friend loaned me his “Motion Pro” – “Sync Pro” vacuum gage. It’d worked well enough at first. After a while, all it wanted to do was suck all the fluid into the engine. I thought it was colored water, but turns out it’s propylene glycol. The company web page says if nontoxic and wont hurt anything. They also sell replacement fluid cheap enough.

Now my question. In the process of the gage failing on me. The carbs got so out of sync they bike wont even start. How do you sync carbs on a bike the wont start. Do I have to remove the carbs and do the paper clip trick I read about? Get it running at least well enough to heat up a bit and then try to sync it? I suppose that’s is answering my own question maybe I just want some confirmation.

Motion Pro Sticks are too short to work with anything but Mercury.

I have said before and will again.

You NEED --> Vacuum Restriction <-- Between the Manifold and Device.
I'm back to the "One Vacuum Gauge" Method ... because one of the narrow tubes in my Motion Pro Tool is cracked.

The Restriction Devices are easily made.
You need to REDUCE the Intensity of the Vacuum and not suck-up fluids and other matter into the Engine

You'll need to pull the carbs to do the bench synch right. Might be a good time to pull the float bowls and do any needed cleaning of jets too.
I usually use 1/4" strips of card stock (business cards) to do the bench synch. No chance of damaging the aluminum carbs (which is possible with steel paper clips). You can also get 'em close by using the tiny little pilot circuit hole, but make sure you have light going directly in the throat so you don't get any shadows on the hole.

a two bottle sync tool will save the day, each bottle 1/3 full there's no way it can suck water

I second Polock! I had the homemade version of the Motion Pro sync tool and was always fighting it trying not to suck fluid into the engine.

I made my two bottle sync tool from two baby bottles and it works great!

I'm a big fan of the Morgan CarbTune

Spend your money wisely, and you get a 4 cylinder tuner that you never ever have to worry about fluid, mercury, transportation, etc...

I've had one for years - they're spectacular.

Thanks for the inputs everyone. The way this Sync-Pro works is they use large diameter vacuum tubes with a brass plug in the end with a wicked small hole in it. That end goes one the carb end and the tube itself acts like an accumulator.

I did a little research and chemically “Propylene glycol” is nearly identical as Ethylene glycol. So using the directions from “Motion-Pro” I’m going to tray to clean and reload with Ethylene glycol. Otherwise known as green antifreeze. Like I said before it worked good when I first got it. I guess after awhile the glycol starts to evaporate making act up.

    Thanks Again Everyone
