When I got my Stage3, the instructions provided only had you re drill the current two slide lift holes on either side. The drill bit enlarged the hold by maybe 1mm?

    Should I drill a 3rd hole?

after a closer comparison of the shocks you have on there and the ones I THOUGHT were the same and picked up I'm not so sure. You said yours are 10"? The auction title of the ones I got SAID they were 10", but I just measured them and they are really only 8.5" from eye to eye. THey also look to be a bit skinnier than yours. What is the measurement of your coil? I guess just measure around it or something.

Crap.... and I got tank to buy a set too. I hope they work. I'll buy them off of him if they don't, because I feel bad and I'll find a use for them eventually even if they don't work on the XJ.

hey, I measured those shocks koolaid, they are definately 10" on center, they measure about 2 1/4 inches across on the spring. As long as you don't bottom out hard they should still work even if they are smaller around.

Thanks Clever, you should start a thread when you go at er, I like watching builds on this site for sure. If your gonna be around I don't have any problems showing you the bike. Shoot me a pm if you do.

Yeah, I ordered the right ones for tank and I now. The ones that you sent me the link to originally were NOT the ones that you have. I should have looked at them more closely. No big deal though.

Oops, sorry, I thought they were I should have looked closer, too. Have you held them up to the bike to see how low it would be? Or would things drag if they were on.

Ok got a long winded update about pods and pvc contraptions.. I started with re jetting my carbs in the beginning for pods. I had 132 mains installed and needled shimmed one click up on the dyno jet needle. I never installed the pods to run the bike instead built a pvc intake. The bike ran good except cut out and wouldn't go past 5000 rpms. So in my inexperience I upped the jets to 136. The problem was worsened. I was flooding it out. My pvc wouldn't flow enough air. So, I stepped down to 124. Better, but cut out at 6000, I threw the pods on, it ran better in the top end, but lost a LOT of mid range power. I stepped back up to 132 jets, and stared at the pods, and found the original air box to carb boots. I took the emgo pod apart and the original boot fit snug as a bug, tight even. So, I changed them all and now have velocity stack pods and the mid range returned. No joke. I took it for a test spin and man, I didn't realize how these things turn on after 6500, It is a goer now. I have a couple of stutters at 7500 to 7700 ish, but am going to polish the slides and bores before I jet again. I looked at the plugs and they are a pretty light tan not indicating extreme lean. Just some of my experience and thoughts give me some feedback on your pod tunings.

good info brawler.... Question - did you buy a jet kit for this or just pick up a few jets? I'm eventually going to pods myself. I already picked up the pods and got them in the mail the other day and I will have some screamin eagle slip ons in a few weeks as well, so I want to have the jet kit on hand, so I have everything I need. The problem is that I can't FIND a jet kit for an '83. I'm not sure if the one that dynojet lists for the '81-'82 750 would work or not.

Let me know what route you went for your jetting.....thanks

I bought the dyno jet kit, are your carbs hitachi? I would say they would be the same but I screwed you up once with the shocks. Get the name and numbers (if any) off the carbs and I can compare with mine or post em up and someone who knows could say.

Ok, koolaid the numbers I found in my haynes manual that runs to 84, they are the same carbs. The 750J, has the number 15R00, and the RJ-RH, has the number 5G200, but they both are hitachi cabs model number HSC32. The pilots and main jets are the same for the 750s maxim and seca. Not th uk versions though.

I made mine out of the original controls, just welded a pipe with a flat plate to the frame, I had to re do the shifter linkage though, not really an easy bolt together mod, fabbing, cutting and welding required.
