    Newbie here..

I'm an English guy living in Switzerland, been riding for a few years now, I own an XJR1300 (Which I don't think is sold in the states) which I really love, lots of power but a bit heavy for city commuting, a Hhhhhonda XL125 which was destined for the wreckers and my first rebuild, I'm just about to sell it on, having completely rebuild EVERY part of it, it's now road legal and I'm really pleased with my work.. It's been really interesting and I've learned loads and now have just rescued a 1984 XJ750 Seca that was destined for the wreckers. It isn't in too bad condition, a few things need replacing or repairing and I'm hoping to get it back on the road before July, when I'm going to be using it as a commuting bike.. Should be an interesting project.. At the moment it's red/white and black, but I'm going to respray it black and then decorate it to taste.

So I just thought I'd say Hi..

LoL... No need to be jealous..

The XJ arrived this evening, the guy selling it to me rode it 125 miles to get it here.. Turns out to be an 85 Maxim I think.. It's registration papers say 85 anyway, but it's faird, which is why I thought it was a Seca it's in better nick than I thought.. It's got 40,000 miles on the clock, but the engine runs without any rattles.. The clutch was replaced 2 years ago.. There's a few grommets that need replacing to keep the right side panel attached, it needs a small repair to the headlight fairing where the guy dropped it, needs new tyres front and back, the battery needs replacing, and I need to look at the sparks and shims and carb balancing, but by the sound of the engine, they're probably ok..

Just one thing that I wasn't expecting.. As with most older bikes, it starts only on the choke, but when the choke is on, the engine revs up 3500 then backs down to 1200 and back up again.. It doesn't seem to matter what I do with the choke lever.. Wierd.. maybe the cable is stuck.. I'll detach it and try setting the choke manually and see what happens..

Oooohh lots of fun ahead, I can tell.. I'm looking forwards to this. :)

Hi Jon, welcome, sounds like you are getting some unwanted air in there, normal culprits, carb boots, vac' port caps, throttle shaft seals.
Can you post any pictures, lets see that XL250, I rebuilt one 3 years ago & Bushy is just starting a project. Wiz.

Riding an XJR 1300 in the Swiss Alps? I would call that a dream vacation, hands down.

    Welcome!

    Hi Swissjon
First, welcome to the site. This is great bunch of guys - always ready with helpful advice. Lots of great info on here as well.
Second, I'm so jealous. I had holidays in Switzerland in the summer of 2002 & loved the place - would return in an instant if I could afford it.
Third, I have an old Honda CT125(the Aussie AG version of the XL125 I think),that someone gave to me in pieces.
I've had trouble finding good resources on the net - any good links or resources from your rebuild?

Have fun with the XJ750 & ride the sh*t out of that XJR1300
