i have an 83 xj750 midnight maxim. It did not run when i got it. the voltage regulator box was bad, both ignition coils were bad and spark plugs were shorted out, and gas in the oil fixed all that :total in bike and repairs $200- body and engin condition fair... it runs now just gota get the breather hooked back in ... plan to modify but keep origianl parts for vintage capability... any sugjestions or tips would be very appriciated thanks ahead of time... also if anyone knows more about increasing the value pleas dont hesitate to share ... thank you

Welcome home. These old bikes will either make a mechanic out of you or become a money pit. Get a service manual right away! If the bike sat for any length of time it probably has sediment in the carbs, (and tank) if it backfires alot at part throttle, or esp while coasting and is hard to start it probably has sediment in the carbs. Mine actually had sediment lodged in the jets which had to be rodded out with a thin wire. (#3 pilot jet was plugged solid), it'll run lots better after; if you do it right. The fork seals are another matter, if they've dried out. Note there is an almost invisible lock ring or stop on each fork tube near the top make sure you take it off and don't beat on the forks with a metal hammer (except maybe a dead blow hammer) Change the brake fluid too, because it attracts water over time. Don't mix dot 3 with dot 4 or the calipers will seize. Good luck & happy motoring!

my carb's are spotless first thing i did befor i even tried starting it was clean the carbs with guitar wire and scunci steamer needle and seat valve are in good shape the float level is probably the only thing that is off had to change coils and high energy ignition system went out but my dad (the prodogy electritian that he is) fixed that all works great on the bike cant get the air filter inserts back on yet cause were not done with the carbs yet but other than that its in perfect running condition... break fluid is great trany works good smokes a very little from the oil we put down the cylinders (quick bike)
