side cover toolbox key on an 83 maxim 400

    I bought a bike with out a toolbox lock , I have located a used one( but not purchased it yet)there is no key with it.I have heard that any Yamaha ignition key will work.Is this correct?

    not sure on that one, someone will time in with more experience with keys than me :)

    the toolbox is on the rear of a maxim 400 not the side. I have several keys and can check mine out for ya.

    I just used the description from the parts list.I now own two of these bikes(1-1982 maxim 400 (Maroon)29500 km and an 1983 Maxim 400 Ugly green 40495 km).Hey dw would you try the keys for me?Also I sent you a question the other day asking if you had a trunk lock and a standing handle for this bike any luck?

    I have no PM's and if you need the grab handle that bolts on the rear then YES I do have one of those. PM me again.

    just tried 'em all. only the original works. should be easy enough to break with a screw driver though. how are you starting your bike? different ign cylinder?
