New to riding and riding my bike every chance I can. I even volunteer for running errands just to ride.
Where do you ride your bike ? Is it for a purpose or just to ride ? Are you nervous that your bike will leave you stranded someplace because of its age ?
I ride alone as nobody I know has a bike.
I sometime take the car because I am still working on a good way to carry stuff. It also just feels wierd to roll up on the bike.
    Is this normal ?

I ride mine to work mostly, if I have errands to run also. I won't hesitate to ride to the auto parts or hardware store providing I can carry what I need to pick up. Pretty much I will ride it anywhere for anything, doctor office, church, bank, scout meetings, everewhere. I ride alone most of the time also but don't worry about the old bike breaking on me. I look after it pretty well and know when things are not right and fix them right away.

I ride everywhere I can....office, job-stie, sales calls with familiar customers, and my shop.
I carry my laptop on the back seat, have a trunk for my hard-hat and rain gear (and other misc stuff)
It's tough to haul anything big.
My biggest problem is that I can't pick up the kids with the bike.

I have picked my kids from school many times, they loved it. They went to different schools so I would get one and drop then at home then go get the other one.

I ride it to work, errands, sports games, backroads, dinner, around town, anywhere I can really. Anywhere, anytime.

Of course this is all in my head because my bike's not on the road yet. But that's where I *will* ride it.

I guess the more I ride I will feel more comfortable about taking it more places.
When you go somewhere do you park in a parking space or someplace else.
    Keep the comments coming...great information.

Park in a normal car spot unless there are motorcycle specific spots available.
You can USUALLY get away with an illegal parking spot (like the "half spot" on the end of a row)

The wife would KILL me if I picked up the 4 yr old on the bike...

After a lifetime of holding a steering wheel I really don't want to do it much. However, handlebars seem to fit just fine. I use one of the bikes every time I can. I don't like to take trips unless I can ride. I will ride 100 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway for breakfast. I ride alone most of the time. If I don't trust one of my bikes I fix it. Before you start traveling know your bike.

I am like most guys here and ride it every time I get the chance. To work, errands, dinner with the fiance (she loves to ride on the back), to the lake, or sometimes just because. This is the second season I have had my bike and I trust it now. Last summer I didn't as it had a few problems. I highly suggest to take your time and go through the entire bike and fix anything that you find out of the ordinary. I spent all last winter tearing it apart and it rides like new now. I was a little nervous at the beginning as I don't have much mechanical experience but with the great people on this site and a bike manual the challenge was very rewarding.

    Ride safe.

I park my cager from may15 till about thanksgiving I'll ride in the snow but not if its staying, rainning just means I don't need to wash my bike
I ride everywhere, gravel roads, took it down a two track for 5miles last year just to see where it went, I try to stay off the highway just because I don't like holding 8k for long stretches.

ride to work everyday, on the weekend before a ride it will get a wash and polish and then pray it doesn't rain then i will spend the ride weekend doing about 1000ks round trip to my favourite watering hole on the queensland new south wales border, travelling a different route each time.

knowing your bike is in the best condition you can afford is easy with these critters and makes the trip that more pleasurable, knowing that she will get you home 99.99999% of the time. just remember it is a machine and sometimes they don't like us for whatever reason and in the case of a breakdown, smile take a breath and put it down to the learning experience that it is.

    stay upright and enjoy

Hey Truckerbikes ever take her to Alice Springs? (Dundee movie  )
I live on the coast so I run up and down the beach road and over to Fort Morgan on Mobile Bay occaisonally. I used to ride the Sporty to work some but my clutch arm was numb at the end of the ride so I gave that up. I think the XJ would be easier on me though. Now that I'm legal I might give it a try.

when i first started riding I felt a little uneasy pulling up someware on the bike, but I quickly got over that. I will ride the bile anyware anytime (unless there is snow and/or ice on the ground). I have been stranded by my cage more times than on my bike.

seaguy, i have never been to the alice and have no plans of riding there. my prefernce is for the mountains and all the twisty stuff and scenic views. besides that the grasshoppers (kangaroos) are way to big to be dealing with on the bike.

I get to ride here, and for any reason I like. And will choose the bike over any other form of transport if I can.

I rode my 600 to work and into town on errands (Riding just to work wasn't really enough to heat the engine thoroughly).

In the UK a lot of motorcycle parking is free, so I used the bike spaces. When I rode, I occupied the same space as a cage.

    Don't ride in the gutter!
