So, I initially thought that I had a leaky valve cam cover gasket. Then I thought it was the head gasket. Now I think that I have a leaky exhaust manifold gasket.

The crud looks like it is coming from #4 exhaust manifold. It looks like its blowing straight up from the manifold.

If its the exhaust manifold is the solution to replace the gaskets for #4 and #4? I assume I cannot just replace #4.

this is just my thoughts on it, i'm not really a bike mechanic but i work on cars alot, even if one needs replaced i replace both on all the cars that need them, that way you're not risking the other one going bad at some other time, so my thought would be replace 1,2,3, and 4 so you're not risking an exhaust leak later on with any of the other pipes. the other thought is maybe you're tach drive cable is leaking oil. hope you're having luck on yours, i have to rebuild the carbs on mine and repair cracked intakes

I would say that is either the valve cover gasket or the cover bolt seals leaking. If it was coming out of the exhaust port it wouldn't tend to go up hill. It looks like the same oil leak I have but mine is on the #1 side. Valve job coming so new gasket bolt seals and half moons coming.
