I am wondering if anyone has tried any wind noise blocking products?
Things like the windjammer or others. I am thinking about intalling some speakers but would not like to go inner ear so I will have to cut down on outside noise or blow my eardrums out with volume. Any suggestions?

I think most of you are missing his point, earplugs do not seem to be a reasonable option, as the whole point of cutting noise is to hear some speakers he wants to install, and to the last post, not everyone enjoys the wind and bugs in the face, thus the creation of the goldwing. Which brings me to my next and final point, if the goldwing can have speakers installed, then I would suggest you try to copy it, with a windjammer. If you can get past the ugliness, I hear they are pretty good (i haven't, nor ever will, try one...)

I'd hate to burst your bubble on installing speakers and expecting to hear music; but I don't think that's going to happen > with any degree of fidelity that will allow you to actually enjoy the music.

Let's say you want to add a sound package to a XJ-750 Max.

The first thing you are going to need is another 500, or so, cc's of engine displacement. Enough to able to power the bike at sufficiently lower rpm's to reduce engine noise.

"Baloney" you say; and mount the speakers on the handlebars, anyway!

No matter what type of device you decide to install to provide the speakers with Dolby Digital sound at 10X over-sampling; the speakers are only going to let you hear what the two powerful "Radio stations" with their four antennas, broadcasting from their studio's, under the gas tank, a few feet away, play, incessantly, whenever the engine is running.

"Static's Best Hits of the '80's"

Now, you need to find a way to suppress medium to high frequency RF without running Monster Cables or lead-lined conduit.

Mid-sized inline four? Ooh, tough one!

I'm thinking iPod and ear pods.

OK.... Here's an idea. For all you audiophiles. (whatever that means)

I have an E815 Motorola cell phone which has a expansion card (1gb) and can play my MP3 music. So I download my MP3 music on the card and make playlists, then I plug in my handy corded stereo earphones with built in mic in the cord.

So as I'm riding down the road I'm jammin to my favorite tunes.....till some #$!* calls, then I hit the answer button which mutes the stereo and answer the $*!*! phone. (after I pull over so I can be heard over the wind and background noise)
When I hit the answer button again it hangs up and restarts the tunies again.

    SWEET

So an IPod would do the same thing without the hassel of having to answer the phone.... it's too far down on the priority list.

    NOOOOOO! (windjammer fairing, ughhh)
    I didnt explain well enough.

1st I love the out in the open wind and bugs, for longer trips though, sometimes I crave some music.

2nd I meant speakers in thte helmet OR earbuds but I am looking for reccomendations on some inexpensive isolating ones.

3rd I meant helmet windjammers, not the damned ugly fairings. I dont even like the looks ofthe simplest windshield let alone a big fairing!

So I am looking for ideas on helmet apparatie (sp?) to help cut down on wind noise such that I might be able to hear the music without blasting it. Also. I am looking for some suggestions on a decent pair of isolating ear buds.

    thanks

I guess you haven't seen the "SlipStreamer Hellfire" series of fairings for the Max.

I put one on for a Summer road-trip to my sisters. 350 miles of mostly Interstate between my driveway and hers. Everything about the SlipStreamer Hellfire is good. No drawbacks!

Down the road at highway speeds (75-80+) and there's NO assault from the wind. NO bugs. NO sand. NO obstruction. Just cruise and enjoy the day.

It's made to go On and Off real easily. After a few rides ... I adjusted everything nice-nice and coated all the mounting hardware with Locktite!
It's a "Sport-touring" fairing. It's not ugly or bulky and lets you really enjoy riding without any wind pressure on your head and chest!

It makes riding for hours a pleasure. No wind pressure fatigue.
I'll put a decent photo in my album when I get back from business in New York.

Whats wrong with the Windjammer, I have a Windjammer IV on my Maxim, and this is followed by the old SS that use to be on it, I love my fairing, makes the ride very very nice.

I ran a Windjammer on my Max for years. Liked the ride, had a stereo too. Just a bit of weight to deal with but the wind off your bod was a blessing on cool nights. A non-turning headlight took some getting used to though.

My thinking is, if you have a windy helmet maybe it isn't a very good one!?
My Shoee is pretty quiet, but if I had to listen to a stereo thru a helmet..... well I sure wont get very much seperation of channels and I'd loose a lot of the sound due to a helmet.

i know a guy that got a good speaker system in his helmet, it cost him $3000 CAD, that was for his goldwing, to me, not worth it, i'll suffer with earbuds and a $100 MP3 player.

am i missing something here!!! i was under the impression that while rididng a motorcycle and listening to music with headphones or earphones was against the law??

i got that impression from the police officer that wrote me a $120.00 ticket and took my ipod last summer for operating a motor vehicle with prohibited ear wear.

received my ipod back but ticket stuck. dont know if this law only applys to Canada? bunch of bulls**t is you ask me.

have to keep in mind that am the guy that when i was 18 got a speeding ticket on my ten-speed pedal bike, that one cost me $35.00 i was allegedly going 55 km/h in a school zone 40.

i guess there theory is that you have to be able to see and hear everything that going on around you IE. ambulance, police, fire, sirens ect.

Ok. I've read the entire thread here and I'm just going to post what I'm doing so maybe it'll be useful to someone.

    1) I have a "cafe" fairing and am mounting two 3.5" 25w RMS speakers just below and outside the gauges on my Seca. (It helps because I'm actually running a smaller gauge pack that is either '83 or '81.) The fairing will direct the sound towards the rider. Not perfect but still it will work - I've tested it.

    2) I intend to use something similar to this kit:

    http://store.qkits.com/moreinfo.cfm/K4003

or maybe another one of similar type that puts out a little more power. I have space for this because I have "pods" not an airbox.

    3) This person has solid-state mp3 kits that don't have displays and can have the buttons remotely wired:

    http://www.teuthis.com/html/daisy_mp3.html

    4) I intend to replace every bulb I can with an LED to gain the right amount of power needed to drive this. When I did my tests I actually had a lawnmower battery and a standard car amp of about the same wattage and I was able to clearly hear the music without cranking it loudly. YMMV and probably will - especially when using a lower wattage amp to "under drive" the speakers like I will be.

Finally - this is all a work in progress and I don't even have either the amp kit or the mp3 player kit to test with. But if someone wants to buy those for me for the Yuletide season... ;)

And of course this kit uses AC which means I now look like an idiot.

Still there should be a 12V amp that doesn't draw that much and suits my needs. :(

Then the circuit is out there!

I think my winter is going to be busier than expected...

Just a suggestion, but if you got some type of helmet with an intercom you may be able to have the speakers in the helmet fed from an ipod instead of the intercom signal. I used to ride with a dollar store fm raido, it worked reasonablly well with my open face helmet, and it works like a dream with the full face

    Thanks for the link!

That's better than I expected to find in the wattage/amp department so I think some purchasing and testing is in order on payday. :)

Most of the things I was finding were 5A or better. One was 10A and only produces 15w per channel. I'm sure it was clear but wow is that a bad return on your current investment!
