Does anyone know if it remotely possible to swap out the seat from an 85 maixm to an 81. I love the seat on those bikes. If it is even remotely possible I expect there to be some bolt hole configuration or manufacturing issues to tackle, but I think I can handle that. I am just afraid that the Fender will need to be replaced also.

Am I just asking a stupid question? I am not afraid to admit that. I was just curious if anyone else had tried something like this. I couldn't find anything in the search about it.

I was going to do the same swap. I've got a seat off an 85 sitting on my shop shelf. Then I found my tractor seat and went with that instead. Never worried about the fenders as I had planned all along to change them.

So will the seat fit over the frame okay? I figured that I would have to fabricate different way for the seat to be mounted. Actually I saw another post where a user mounted a completely custom made seat on his xj that gave me some ideas.

I think so. It's been months since I've had it sit on top of the bike. I'll be back at the shop tomorrow night and I can toss it on there and snap some pics if you want.

That would be great! Would you be willing to part with the seat if you are needing it?

Here's the pics. If you want any others let me know I'll get them for you. If you want the seat let me know what you think is a good price.

:D Huge help. Now I have an idea of what I will need to fabricate to be able to mount the seat. If you are interested in parting with it let me know what you think a fair deal is.
