I have a guy who wants to trade me my xj650 for his xj1100....my question is, how much different is the 1100. Are parts interchangeable ? Mainly I'm thinking the backrest. Mine has one, but his does not and I am wondering if it will switch over. Also is the mechanics pretty much the same ? Same carb sync procedures, maintenance procedures ? Any tips or suggestions with the 1100 as opposed to the 650 ?

    Thanks !

I would think parts would be more plentiful for the 650....I had an xs 1100 it was a little too much bike for me,i'm 5'9 and still was on my toes! I found that the 1100 was kind of cumbersome around town but is a hiway star for sure,,,,

    LOL

If you are referring to the fact he wants to trade me, I've checked the bike out. It's on the level. It has 10,000 more miles than my 650. The main reason he wants to trade is he is too short. he has to lean at a stop and can not put the side stand down with out a ton of work. I watched him try and it was quite humorous. The only issue with the bike is it idles a little rough, just like mine did when I first got it. I'm leaning towards the carbs need cleaned and synced. Once the bike is moving, there is no issues. At idle it hunts a little and stutters, but stays running. It's the same year as mine (82) with 29,XXX mine has 19,XXX. It does have aftermarket 2 to 1's on it and it sounds nice. Other than that it's pretty clean.

That sucker has a set of BIG Mikuni's on it that are a joy to Clean.
I have the one off my 900 on-the-bench, that are Tuned-up sweet.

They spent two years in the back of my garage where I couldn't get to 'em for Draining the Bowls ... so, ... today when I tried to fire-up the Big Seca ... she wouldn't Idle for me.

    Ran rough as hell.
So, I started doing the Carbs around 2 O'clock and have them all opened-up and ready for Cleaning and Tuning.

(( Them Pilot Screws weren't too deep on all of 'em. I think they were something like only 8 or 9/64ths from the top.))
