:?: Hello folks..was lost in the busy world..but my Maxim X has brought me back here..!! Upon lookin at some youtube DIYs changing the tires i got motivated and started off..with good muscle work got the old tire out. But getting the new tire in (final part) between say 10 o clock and 02 clock Radius..seem impossible. I did use lots of windex on the beads. I have about 5 irons out of which 2 are slightly bigger and easier to handle. But i started to see little chips of rubber from inside of the bead edge. I dont want to scrap the tire trying to avoid the bikeshop..ANY Thoughts.??

We get charged about 20-30 bux around here to have tires changed and balanced. I can accept that price so i don't have to put up with the frustration of it :)

Make sure the part of the tire you already have on is not up on the bead but pushed down into the centre of the rim as you pry on the final bit. Also only try to pry on a small amount of the tire in the final stages, not taking too big of a bite at once and keep it well lubed. Before you fill the tire with air make sure you look for a little colored dot or circle on one sidewall of the tire. Line that up with your valve stem then fill with air. Hope this helps.

Thnks jeff..i guess the other side of the tire which is already inside rim..should be pushed towards the centre of rim..so that it gives some space to move..Am i right..Am thinking to give it a shot ..remembering to work on small bit at a time..Also a good idea to buy tire lubricant..as i got to do 4 rims(2bikes).

Yes, pushing it down gets it to the smaller diameter part of the rim and gives you a little more room to play when prying on the last bit. Hope my tips are understandable. I'm better at just doing things than trying to describe how I do said things. lol I also just use a few drops of dish soap mixed with water in a squirt bottle as a lubricant. I just put a bit on the tire and then spread it evenly on the bead with my fingers. Some people don't like that but as long as one doesn't get the mixture too soapy it is fine. Been using that method for about 35 years now with no problem. Good luck.

Thanks jeff and everyone, I gave a good lube with windex, placed lumber underneath just below tires(not rims)and kneeled on them so the tires would cave in to centre of rim...sure it did and gave me enough freespace to easily slide the last part of rubber in !!!

Before the New rubber goes in..Should the rim (Bead seating area) be cleaned with no traces of even slightest rubber residue on RIM..?

    For a tubeless skin, yes.
