The XJ-Models are ALL equipped with Safety Circuitry and a Relay that shuts the Bike down if a Safety item is sending a signal to the Safety Relay to prevent the Bike from moving.

    Side Stand Switch
    Clutch Lever Switch
    Neutral Switch Input.

Bypassing the Safety Circuits is not recommended.

The Side Stand wires are usually in the area of the back of the Engine or around the Battery Box or Air Box.

The Clutch Perch Switch goes into the Headlight Bucket.

The Neutral Sensing Wire is along the path of the Neutral Indicator Light.

(because not ALL XJs had the exact same design or configuration of the safety circuit...)

Unless you visit a Dealer who is kind enough to let you look at a fully Color-coded Master Electrical Diagram for your Bike, ... the next best thing are the Brake-downs in the factory Manual.

The Brake-downs deal with with Sub-systems and Highlight the Sub-system on the Diagram.
It's good to have the Sub-system narrowed-down, ... But, the illustration is still a colorless Black and White Schematic-type Print that leaves much to be desired.
