Switch back from PODS to stock airbox

    So after seeing all the discussion related to the dangers of POD filters, I'm thinking about switching back to a stock airbox. I've had my bike for less than 2 months, but plan to own it until the day she (or I [or both of us {let's hope not!}]) dies. Let me give you the details.

    When I bought this bike, it came with pod filters and the exhaust baffles removed. As far as I am aware, the rest is stock. That being said, it's not likely that the carbs have stock jetting, considering those two mods. I have not opened up the carbs yet, as I have no big reason to at this point. The bike runs fine. Great in fact. Except for one thing. When I brake hard, the engine floods, due to my float levels being set too high. I don't often have to brake that hard, so it hasn't been a huge issue yet. (I know, I know, this needs to be fixed, and it will be the first thing I do when I get the time). The engine revs smooth, accelerates hard, so I'm (nearly) happy with the condition of the bike.

    My two questions:

    1) Will decreasing the float levels cause me to run lean? I'm thinking it's a possibility that the PO may have raised the float levels to compensate for the increased airflow instead of rejetting. Is that logical?

    2) If I do switch back to the airbox, what will I need to buy beyond this list?

    set your float heights with the clear tube method and then see if it runs lean. If it runs good and not to lean why would you put the air box back onit? The carbs are so much easier to work on with that airbox gone.

    The only reason I'd put the air box back on is for the sake of future mods. From what I gather, the general consensus is that it's easier to dial in the carb settings with an air box than with pods. If I don't make any mods, I'm definitely not going to change anything, as it runs great right now (except for the float level issue).

    IF you are happy with it, don't mess with it.
    If you put the airbox back on, there's no telling what you will need to adjust.
    The PO may have changed jets, shimmed the needle, bored out the air jet...no telling what they did to get it acceptable and (unless you are bored) you don't want to go through that again.
    Ride it and be happy :)

    Buy a project bike to mess around with :p
