I need help in identifying which coloured wires go to the bottom 2 terminals on the lower TCI plug . I stepped on it while putting the motor back in the frame. Enough of the plug was ok to put the top 2 on (black and brown) , but I dont know which terminals the orange and grey go on to. As I dont want to reverse them and fry the TCI, I would appreciate any help.....

    Cheers, Murray

ok, if this is the 6 postion connector which I'm sure it is (i've only had 1 XJ and my 82 has slightly differnt 4 positions within the 6 postion area) , forget it, in my Haynes manual for 80-84 650's there's no blue on the TCI, i just looked at all 6 different types on 650's. That goes for the 4 postion connector also. Blue = L, no L, sorry man. which exact model do you have?

Thanks for the reply, as stated in the text, BL = Black, BR = Brown.( top 2 terminals of lower 4 pin plug )It,s an Australian bike classified as an xj650H, tho' that could mean anything. The lower connector has only 4 terminals, The Haynes manual tells you the colour wires that go to the unit ,but not to which terminals. I.ll try to get along to a wreckers to see if I can find a comparible unit to match it to ............................

ok missed that, I have the schematic in front of me and the colors you mention still aren't the way it should be. I'll type the correct order below

large connector that could have 6 positions but only really has 4
    keyway blank orange black keyway
    blank greak black

    4 position connector
    keyway orange red/white keyway
    grey black

keyway = the little notch that allows the connector to go in the TCI one way only. this is from the schematic for a XJ650H

Thanks again Yamaman . After some initial confusion I think I,ve worked it out. The manual I was useing is one of the earlier editions, and just shows coloured wires going into blocks ,not terminal arrangements. When I looked at my 2nd manual,a newer one ,it was a bit clearer. (almost) The colours used are the ones for the xj650 R & K models, black, brown, grey and orange, but the terminal arrangement is the same as the xj650H. So I will be able to work it out from the 2nd manual, which I couldn,t find at the time. Ive had this problem before when trying to buy brake shoes. The back drum diameter is 200mm( 8 inches ) which I gather is larger than most xj650 models. The only reference I could find to 200mm drums at the time was a model specific to the Japanese market. Anyway, thanks for your time and effort, much appreciated.
