JB Weld OK for small gas tank hole?

    while lifting my tank today a little tiny hole broke free and out came tiny stream of fuel. the tank looks real good except this. Can i just mix some epoxy for this one tiny hole on the underside of the tank?

    I have jbweld on the gas tank for my car. Its been on there for about 5 years now and no leaks yet. My leak was at the seam around the middle of the tank. A bike tank should be cake to jbweld with it being so easy to take off and such. Just make sure you clean the area very well and let it sit for the full 24 hrs before filling back up. Oh yea I used the original formula not the 5 min stuff I'm not knocking on it just never used it.

    jb weld works fine used it many times just make sure area is clean and no gas is present clean it with brake clean before applyng you can sand it also if needed. tanks are made of steel thats why you get pin holes rust or bad welds best of luck to you

    i have a leak from the tube on the fuel switch. where the fuel line hooks up. autozone sells something called *seal all*. resistant to gas, kerosene, thinner. my tube still spins around in the switch but it don't come out anymore. and it's not leaking either.

    I got LOTS of JB weld on mine (PO used Bondo,,,,,that didn't last long)

    I use original flavor liquid steel, and it's holding up fine

    Just make sure it's clean and dry

    We didn't have JB-Weld or Miracle Epoxy Adhesives back when Rock-'n-roll was being invented.

    We we sprung a leak we took a Copper Penny and Sweat it on over the leak.

    I still use pennies Rick, the copper ones are getting harder to find. No holes in any of my bikes but my old boat has a few cents worth of patches on it.

    Sounds like you still have a problem to address, as these bikes actually will catch FIRE !!

    can't catch fire if it's not leaking. as i stated in my post.

    yamaman; I hate to be the one to tell you this but if you have one tiny hole you have a rust problem and there are other tiny holes just waiting to break through that haven't yet.

    Yes, you can epoxy or JBWeld the current hole; but you have a disaster waiting to happen there.

    Image the result of hitting a bump at 60 and suddenly having a lap full of gas.

    Your tank is going to need some serious attention and soon. Do a forum search on rusty gas tanks; you're going to need to do a lining treatment.

    ahhhh. the dillemas we face with having old bikes. LOL.

    unavailable parts. and the parts that are available are just getting more and more expensive.

    almost not worth having an old bike anymore.

    fitz, i had that feeling too, kinda pushed it aside and then Bam you say that, but Thanks. okok, i can do that. When my replacement TCI comes today, and if the bike actually runs normal, I'm going to get the tank stuff, foot pegs, mirrors, seat cover, grips, fork rebuild. I have enough $ in this thing that I simply stopped spending until it proves to be mechanically road worthy

    $100 for the petcock housing. (no longer available) $35 for the rebuild kit. one left to buy. $50 to buy the switch and other goodies. half of which are no longer available.

    nope. don't cost much to buy brand new parts. if they're still available.

    cost of bike-$300.

    cost of parts for the $300 bike=brand new bike.

    parts for motorcycles are outrageously priced. if we could afford brand new parts. i think we'd all be driving a brand new bike instead.

    the previous owner paid $2500 in parts and labor. and sold the bike for $400. is it really worth trying to fix an old bike that isn't worth anything anymore?
