i put a different set of mufflers (just the slip ons) on my 550 and there's a metal bracket on them to stop the center stand, but since theyre both metal they make serious racket while i'm riding. i want to epoxy a piece of rubber to it to make the rattle stop. the bracket on the muffler has a smoother/cleaner mating surface than the center stand. can i use regular jb weld to hold it or do they make a high temp version? or is there something else i can use?

    here you go:

This is the piece of rubber i'm going to cut a piece out of to stop the rattling

The tab that is welded onto the muffler is where i'm talking about mounting the rubber piece.

here's how the center stand rests against it, its perfect to block it from the muffler but rattles like a mofo

Here's where it is relative to the entire muffler

    OK, good pics.
My suggestion would be to countersink a a hole in the block, then put a stainless bolt and washer through the block and tighten it up to a stainless washer and lock nut in the bracket on the muffler. A little bit of blue lock tite might give it a bit more permanance.
Just make sure the head of the bolt is below the rubber of the block, otherwise the bolt head will just rattle.

Or just use silicon to glue the piece on.

How about use the rubber bumper that was intended to go there (that's what the hole is for?)

There should be a round rubber bumper in that hole. It's the same one you probably have on the bottom of your seat, it's a round flat puck with a "spike" on it that pops into the hole.

Do you want a pic of one?

jb weld may not be the best for this application, the rubber might not hold very long. it will work though, and hold up to the heat. if you could devise mechanical means of holding it on there like maxim-x suggested i think that would be a much better route.

i'd like to know where you got the muffler? is it a muffler or is it straight pipe?

i've got a hole in one of m ine. i'm using a aluminum band aid right now over the hole with some automotive hose clamps holding it on.

    i'm looking for something cheap.

i took a vacuum line end cap that was larger than the hole and shoved it snugly in the hole and spackled it with exhaust crack sealant to hold it in place. so far its sitting snug, sealant is holding it in place, and isn't showing any signs of melting, and it stopped the rattling. so for now i think im good to go.

i've got a crack in left muffler and a hole in right muffler. i've got aluminum peaces with hose clamps covering the mufflers. since the mufflers are no good. i'm gonna try jb weld in hopes it holds the aluminum peaces onto the mufflers and covers the leaks. so i can get ride of the hose clamps and not have a mickey mouse looking exhaust
