I did the lemon juice boiling trick and she was NOT happy. I bought my own stock pot for the procedure but the set of carbs I pulled off my bike had some seriously varnished gas in them.

The smell of lemons and varnish is simply nasty.

But, all is well that ends well and the carbs are clean save for one tiny problem.

The passage for the idle jet that is cast into the bowls is clogged in 3 of 4 of them. One blows air through just fine.

    Any tips for this?

Also, I buggered up the jets getting them out. It seems as though the PO was "told the carbs were rebuilt" when they really weren't. The jets were a bitch to get out and I didn't even get one of them out. But they are all clear. The screwed up part is when I tried to screw them out. The brass just gave way under pressure.

I have had a hard time finding simply jets for this carb as opposed to a whole kit.

I have a set of tip cleaners for a welder/torch that I used to clean the little holes in my carbs. Worked great.

Ha! I did the exact same thing two weekends ago and got the exact same result - one angry wife! I thought the lemon juice would mask the smell of decades-old petrol chemicals. Seemed to make it worse!

Ended up on the balcony using the side burner of an old barbecue.

It was worth though - carbs have never been cleaner!

LOL, I wish there was a dictionary for all these coloquialisms (sp?). That is truly funny!

Guitar string! Good thing I have a ton of guitars laying around the house! That is one of my other sicknesses; guitars.

Jets are dirt cheap as I found out, so I will be picking up some new ones soon.

Jimmy, I totally agree about the effectiveness. I should have bought a hotplate and used it outside. It smelled TERRIBLE! She was so mad! LOL!

This is the site I used to replace a few bad jets when I re-did my carbs. Flat rate and there isn't a minimum order.

    Jets R Us

They might have what you are looking for and more!

Outstanding! I may have to wait on the purchase, but that place has all I need.

I am contemplating doing RTV instead of a replacement gasket. So long as I apply a thin bead, I shouldn't have any issues.
