I am getting ready to do my fork seals (yay no more seals puking oil!!) and would like to stiffen up the forks a little without spending a ton of money on progressive springs until next time I do the seals.

Do I need to use 10wt or can I substitute a heavier weight like 15w, 20w, or 30w? The stiffer the better, so if I can run 30 and not worry about blowing fork seals, that would make my day.

consider a 1 to 1.5 inch preload spacer on top of the spring to get rid of some of the initial sag when you get on the bike and then maybe go from 10 to 15w oil

yeah 20 is a bit much, i have 20 in mine right now and its a good ride on flat surfaces but the bumps really jump out at me.

Just curious though.. what do you weigh? I weigh between 230 and 240 on any given day so 20 maybe just what I am looking for.

I want it stiffer than a sportbike. I dont ride more than 20 miles at any given time (and I like my bikes super stiff) so its not going to wear me down too badly.

Sagging spring cannot be compensated by a heavier oil. The heavier oil will make the ride harsh without doing anything about the sag. If you're sitting on it and the front end dives then a preload spacer as Polock suggested is the way to go.

If it's bouncy (which I doubt) a heavier oil might be in order.

Ok so as it sits, I plan on going with a preload spacer, probably about an inch and a half and 15 weight oil. Plus new for oil seals. Do I need to change the dust seals on top as well or will the oil seals alone be enough?
