so while fixing my speedo last night I also fixed my alignment and handling problem!!! As it turns out the speedo gear broke because when my po put the new tires on he remounted the front wheel backwards!!! ya... thats right, i said backwards!!! and being backward there are no tabs for the gear to fit into when he tightened the axle bolt he snaped the gear!!
this just confirms that the world will always benifit more from lazy and stupid than from motivated and stupid! But the good news is I'm back on the road!!!

Looking a his sig it seems like he's refering to a 84 Suzuki gsx750ef not an XJ. That would just be too obvious, then the PO wouldn't necessarily be stupid, just blind :D

My other project bike is a Honda CB1100F, and the PO puts the PO in POS! He broke an exhaust stud off inside the block, went after it with a drill bit and managed to destroy the port face AND break off a piece of the drill bit. Of course he rigged it so it looked like it was properly seated and glued the broken stud into the flange. I found it when the exhaust came off. Fortunately, a friend sold me a new engine top for peanuts to keep the dream alive...

Oh, and my old CX500 Honda was a death trap. Thank god for the service guys. Went to get the oil changed. They discovered it was in an accident, front end collision. The axle was bent, and the axle hole in the right fork lower was busted off, so he WELDED it back! He showed it to me, and he just pulled on it hard and POP, off it came...close call!

    wow xj7!! that sucks!

yes schoot on my Maxim it would have but on the gsx it's a straight spoke so you can't tell but he should have been able to tell when the speedo gear didn't seat or at very least when it broke!!!

ok so now that I'm done tearing apart my bike ( after the wheel thing I lost my nerve to ride this bike until I went through it to see what else was wrong!!) as it would seem my paranoia was justified as I also discovered that the nut for my rear shock and swing arm was missing but also both bolts for the left side rear engine mount were missing!! I guess I thought things where ok because he was riding it when I bought it, but it would seem that my po had no more concern for his own safety than he did for mine... LESSON LEARNED!!! so keep in mind people, your standards are very likely higher than those of the guy/girl before you, and just because they were riding the bike doesn't mean you should too!
