Engine number should be on the top right hand side of the engine case.

Just under the right hand side carb.

    It's a 750 Seca exhibiting evidence of carb-drool.

There is a small flat on the front of the cam-chain tunnel that has the engines' displacement on it, in raised cast letters about 1/4" high. Look just below the head-gasket surface and you'll see it.

This method of engine displacement label is pretty common...you just need to know where to look for it.

Yep, that is the engine number. It should match the last 9 digits of your VIN number if it is the original engine.

Go get some ZEP Cleaner. Soak that baby, good -- full strength -- ... all over. Really lay it on thick around the stained areas.

    15 Minutes later ...

Hose it off and see what needs some additional cleaner and elbow grease.

Nice grab. Running is half the battle. Cleaning and Pimping is all just a matter of time.

and someone filled it up with about 3.5 quarts of oil and it was backfiring into the intake but its all good and clean now

The WHOLE number should be heavily STAMPED on to the frame at the steering head. The numbers stamped into the frame are often covered with a Nomenclature Decal. The decal ages, fades and falls-off.

The FRAME STAMP cannot. Lurking on the steering head right-hand side is the FULL - VIN Number. It should be 17 Characters. JYA35H004DA001273

It might be painted-over. But, if you need the whole number to get the bike reg'd or Titled ... you'll find it there.

    Mine must be broken
My bike only has 9 digits in total.

The engine #, frame stamped #, and the frame decal # are all the same, but only 9 digits.
