Sometimes, I think just selling both bikes and moving on is a smarter idea.

If I could get $2k for both bikes in the end.......that could buy me something REAL nice...... :?:

I think everyone has that feeling now and again. If it comes down to it, do what makes the most sense financially for you. I love my bike and will probably never sell it but, who knows what the future may hold. Every year I do something else to it, hell its almost 30 years old after all. But I think, I will never find a bike more reliable and ridable than what I have. New bikes have problems also, but usually you can't wrench on them yourself, unless you have computer diagnostics handy.

I meant $800 for the SECA and $1200 for the Maxim.

Good point. I would hate to have to take my bike in for repair.
Probably kill a little part of my soul each time.

I had the same dilemma. It came down to the time it was going to take me to pay for the past 'sins' of the previous owners was more than I could bear at the point in time. I decided that if I was going to make the move to go over to EFI which has been a dream. Now, it's hit the start button and go.

Knock on wood, I have almost covered 5K trouble free miles since the change. It was a hard decision though.

    Fuel injection scares me.

    What are the noticeable differences?

I've got an 04 XJR1300, cost a lot more than 2 grand, and you know what.. I like my XJ 750.. Because it's mine.. My XJR is a lovely ride, and I've worked on the engine, and added a few trick bits here and there, but when I'm done with the XJ, she's gonna be ALL me.. My paintwork, my messing about with the engine, I'll know her inside and out.. And once she's on the road, I think I'm gonna sell the XJR and buy myself an old Norton Commando to do up..

Sell up if you want, but I bet the two you have won't be the last XJ's you'll ever own!

Don't get me wrong, I love my bikes. They're great machines.

The SECA was my dream bike (1st bike), until it I figured out it ran like butt, and turned into a worm hole of problems. (not the worst after reading some of the stuff here:()

I kind of wish I knew better at the time.....but that's the past.

I just wanted to ride, and the SECA seemed like a good deal at the time. The PO gave me the "it just needs carb clean", and I believed him.

The feeling that they're money pits and I should get something else, came after I considered all of the things I've had to do to the SECA. The scary part was thinking about the Maxim doing some of the same things in the future!!!

Just for gab, would you consider a FZ6, or dump Yamaha completely? I think the FZ6 is fabulous. An older Yamaha I like is the Seca 2 600.

The FZ6 is a crotch rocket, isn't it?

What I'd like is a modern SECA with the retro-ish styling.

The FZ6 is a sport touring bike. Yes it's fast but it has handlebars so you sit upright. It's the descendent of the Seca.
They put side panels on the new version, FZ6R, but just a couple years ago it was naked.
All the new bikes look like bugs to me, that's the Japanese mind.

    Sport-touring??

No it ain't.. The XJR is sport-touring.. The Fazer is pure sport like the R6.. Handlebars don't make a tourer, I got sports bike back on this in an hour when I took it out for a test ride earlier this year, no way I'd do any touring on that, I was looking for a commuter, and this ain't it...

Don't know why they dialled down the power on the standard Fazer when they slapped the sides on.. seems like a daft idea. the S2 model is exactly the same as the old model, but for some reason they dropped 20bhp on the standard model.

    OOopps!

    mis-type. :(

Yeah, that's a real nice bike. It retains the essence of the older OJ bikes, but with a modern facelift!!

Doesn't look like they make the XJRs anymore? :?:
