    Hi everybody!
New menber to the forum (from Norway).
Bought my 85 maxim last fall. Installed new progressive fork springs today. Springs should deplase about 30 ccm more oil than stock and therefore filling 289(stock)-30=259 ccm was my first thought.

However; info says new springs are supposed to be used without airpressure in forks...

Oil level without springs and forks collapsed seems to be about 15 cm below top with 389 ccm. (Instructions says 14 cm + is OK).
Do you think this oil level would be OK if I didnt use any air? Dont want to blow my oilseals.

    Any thoughts/experiences appreciated!

And by the way: Great forum!

Hi Roar, just done the same thing, new progressive springs and seals. Manual said 286cc for mine, which was 190mm from the top, the instructions said up to 140mm from the top, so i added some more oil to bring it up to 160mm from the top (~300cc of oil total) no air and sits up now! Waiting to take it for a ride tomorrow to see what its like(in the rain). Back shocker are next i didn't realise how bad they where until i sat on it tonight after riding another bike for 2 months.
How have your springs settled in, have they dropped at all yet from new?

    Hi. Thanks for your reply.
Decided to keep my oil level at standard 389 ccm and no air pressure. Seems to work well! Diving when braking is gone, "floats" over bumps in a much better way than stock springs.
(Hope oil seals will be OK)
My rear shocks are OK, but if the improvement changing to progressives is anything like it was changing front springs it would certainly be worth considering...
