Okay, it's getting cold, and there's a zillion different styles/manufacturers of leather jackets. Anyone have some recommendations.....that protect well and look really cool? Black is preferred..........

I bought a helmet and sissy bar bag from these guys, I don't know about their coats but they look good and the price is right. They are also on e-bay but the shipping is way higher. Hope it helps.

I'm a big guy so I bought the Power Trip Blackjack. YOU CANNOT beat the price for a leather jacket. The leather is soft and thick. There is a removable lining. The cuffs suck but I had a tailor remove them and tapere the arms for $20.

Great deal if you don't need armor.

Hey guys, thanks for the info. Can you also give me your thoughts on what features I might/should be looking for in a jacket? Like what are the "must haves" and what to look to avoid? Thanks!

Are you wanting to look like a tough Harley biker, do you want to look like Ricky Racer, or a 1960's Steve McQeen cafe racer style, or a 1944 Bomber pilot?

I started out on sportbikes, and don't really care if people say I look like a Power Ranger, I like the venting, armor protection, and waterproofness in my Jackets.

My only leather jacket is an Icon Daytona, which has CE armor as well.

    Some tips I have found.
-If you are trying on in the Moto store. Sit on a bike with the jacket to see what the arms and waist are doing. Not as important on cruisers, but BIG deal on some bikes with low bars. I bought a great fitting Teknic jacket once, but fit like crap once I sat on the bike with my arms out.
    -Is waterproofness important to you?
-Some jackets do not play nicely with my bigass armored gloves.
-It is better to have the arms and back a little longer than it is little short
-I have graduated to jackets with Cordura/kevlar/leather for temps from 15 to 25 C and I have mesh with armor for 25+C.
-If you get leather and take care of it, it will last you a lifetime, so keep doing stomach crunches.
-Some jackets have weird necks on them. They feel great in the store since you do not have them sinched up, but when you are on the bike, they pull, itch, or poke you in the adam's apple. I do not care for this at all.

I was almost killed as a teenager, so I am a huge gear-nazi. ATGATT. All the gear, all the time...

At our local flea market, there is a nice older lady who sells all kinds of leather bike stuff. She had an unbelievable off brand full leather jacket for $99 - I couldn't resist. It has front and rear vents, outer and inner pockets, zippered cuffs, and a zip-out liner. It's nice and heavy, but not too bulky that you couldn't wear it year round. It's also plain jane - nothing fancy, no dangling zipper chains, just plain the way I wanted it.

I wear a sweatshirt under it when it's cold - it gets me down below 30 degrees with jacket, sweatshirt, and long sleeve T.

Look for the features you want - there are tons to choose from - liners that extend into the sleeves, many zippers, few zippers, liners made from crap to Thinsulate, to Gortex, buckles, ties, snaps, everything imaginable is out there.

My minimum requirements were some kinda zip-out liner, zippered cuffs with leather pocketing under the cuff zipper, zippered vents front and back, interior and exterior pockets, a straight plain simple short collar, and a plain clean look - and all for cheap, whicj I accomplished :D .

I also ride with electric grips, electric vest as well, and had to go up in sizes. My suit jacket is a 44 but I needed a 50 Teknic Hurricane, so it is a good thing I did not order online!

I bought a Z1R leather. Unfortunately, I don't know the model, but it's a great jacket. It has the extra protection in the elbows, shoulders, and back. Plus, as spinalator mentioned, they make their jackets with the slightly increased sleeve length (which makes a world of difference). It's long enough so that the jacket doesn't ride up on your wrists when riding, yet not so long that you look like your wearing your big brothers jacket with your arms down. With that jacket and a pair of flannel lined jeans, I've already been out (comfortably) in high 30-low 40 degree temps.

    Hello,
I purchased a jacket from from leatherup.com. The jacket was pretty decent as far as price wise. I also thought the jacket was pretty good quality cond=sidering the price I paid for it. I ended up giving it to my wife becaise it was to small for me. I could've returned it but it was so nice I kept it.
