Or maybe an XS. Wasn't the XS chain, and the XJ shaft, in early years? Get the serial numbers off it. Off the frame tag preferably, as the motor may have been changed. Check both to see if they match.

I think, don't quote me on this, that the 650 seca's were chain driven as well. The style of the tank is a seca tank, same one I have on my bike. if you look at the front of the cylinder there should be a marking saying how many cubic centimeters it is.

Definitely looks like it's a 550 - chain final drive, 550 instrument block (with two guages at top), and those aren't 650 wheels either. Maybe it's had a 650 top end dropped on, hence the capacity claim.

Yea after looking into it more, I was wrong. I would say it's a 550 too. the tank looks too short to be a 650 also the passenger pegs look like a 550.

    Here is a sideshot of a 650.

Very confusing. The wheels, side cover, and rear fender all say XS Special, 1980 or older. But if it were a 650 it would be a twin. and an XS11 would be shaft, right? I dunno.........

550 Seca, no doubt. No sidecovers, different exhaust, not the factory fairing though; but it IS a 550 Seca beyond doubt.

The 650 Seca was shaft-driven, as were the 750 and 900 Secas.

The 400/500/550/600 series were the only chain driven '80s XJs.
