To make people ask why. If that is a 16" rim,I am guessing a big fat sneaker will be hugging this wheel, and it I bet it will look awesome! Likely the handling will suffer ( not much ),but the cool factor could be through the roof. Pity the fool that doesn't update us on his progress!

Form over function. The flat-tracker look.

I went a different route to fit my 16" sneaker and it's perfectly functional as well as having "form". Even has dual rotors...

Yeah I have seen this done on the virago Zero Tribute bike. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thought it is actually 18in front and rear wheels... very cool indeed. Handling might suffer a little, but it looks great. I would love to do this if it could be done to a 750 seca. Anyone know if it is possible?

Purely aesthetics... some don't like the look, but i personally love the look of the same tire front and rear. Especially when the front is lowered just a bit.

But then again, it does slow you down in the corners, and the big front wheel can be felt around town a bit more.

I would love to see someone do it with the dual front disks on a seca.

does the term "unsprung weight" mean anything to you?

There is a REASON bikes don't come with huge heavy front wheels.

I was waiting for someone to mention EXILE CYCLES. I think he revived the phat front from the 50's.

I like the fat front tire look with no fender. I'm going with the widest tire I can mount on it when I get new rubber. Looks great!

Yeah I like that look. Think I would dish pan that rear wheel since they don't match. Might look even better. Hey painter why don't you cut the spokes on a rear and front wheel and weld the rear rim to the front hub spokes. should work if laid out good. Wish I had more parts to play with. That cast is a pain to weld though. Be brave my man and post the pics before you try it out.

I'm not an alloy welder, but aren't there structural integrity issues with welding cast alloy?

People do it so that's why i told him to be brave but post pics before that first ride. It's possible that a painter don't weld too. Just running my big mouth there Hill.

This looks awesome! I have a XJ 550 and I can't decide whether to keep her bone stock looking or modify like crazy. This is sweet though.

I do weld (have for 30 years) just not aluminum or magnesium. Anything's possible if you want to do it bad enough I guess. I just want to go with the widest tire I can fit on the stock rim. The fender and mounts would be the only thing holding me back from going as wide as the rear. But the fender mounts can be cut off, sanded down and polished to look like they were never there, so it's doable.

I've been looking into getting something a little wider on the front of my bike, preferrably shorter also, like the back tire. Painter is right on the money with the fender mounts. I'm not running any instruments so I don't need the odometer gear. That should allow for a little more clearance to get something wider. I've even been looking at other triple tree setups. That's gonna take a lot of figgerin' and cypherin'. That could take awhile.

Actually a 130/90 16 will fit between the fender mounts with no modification. The fender will not fit though.

New to the forum and doing the vulture thing on a local XJ700 maxim from 1986 for sale. What are the widest tires ( RADIAL, not bias ) that will fit on an XJ700 standard rim? Thanks.

Must be so if he got a flat front tyre he could change it out using the back one....yep that'd be it..

I love exile cycles. I'd like to do the fat front on my '83 XJ 750, but I'd want to go with the dual disc set up and not sure how to do that.

Yeah, I saw your post on page 1 brawler. I don't know what wheel that is or how you did it though. I'm not sure I dig having a different wheel on the front than the back either though.

Yeah, I turn my head the other way. I think it looks ridiculous. Personal taste, of course. I like the look of the skinny larger diameter front tires.
