Hi ya'll...New to the bike world and to xj's. But man am I in love with my 82 maxim 750. Bout it off my bro for 250 bucks. New battery and she fired right up after sitting for four years. It's been 2weeks and over 400 learing miles....love it .

Anyhow I want to get rid of the ridiculous oversized blinkers. Convert to led bullets. Found them on ebay for a set of four...only 28 beans. ...Any issues with the conversion?

nice bike...what type of shield is on it? how do you like it? can you get any closer / higher-res pics?
i picked up my 85 maxim-x for the $250 at the end of april. i have just over $100 additional in the bike and have put 1900 miles on it in the last 4 weeks or so.
i do love to ride and plan to put several more thousand miles on it but really need to get a shield.
    thanks in advance

You will have to replace the old flasher with a electronic one available at most autoparts stores. If your auto-cancel function still works, it won't work with the new flasher unless it is modified. There are several posts here on how to modify them. I just did it on my XS1100, they work great.

After the bike has been sitting for 4 years I think the bike has more important priorities than fancy new blinkers. Just saying.

    Good point!
I recommend considering a Led tail light as well. :)

LOL, exactly. And get rid off the fuggly headlight, fishfinder dash, transformers like handlebars. Lower it, loose the couch seat and ur half way there
Seriously though, a decent carb job, inside tank?, new rubber, new brakes, new oil, etc :!:

    Ya think?

CHECK YOUR REAR BRAKE SHOES FOR DELAMINATION! NOW. http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=15874.html

A consideration in regard to LED turn signals: I have yet to see an LED turn signal that is actually VISIBLE to OTHER MOTORISTS in bright daylight. Yes, they may LOOK cool, but they need to WORK as well. A turn signal that can't readily be seen by other drivers is not a good idea.

Ok...I guess I could have went into detail about what I did to the bike before actually taking her out for the first time...All fluids changed...Including flushing what looked to be original brake fluid. All the brakes are excellent. My brother has changed them prior to storage. I have over 400 hundred miles on her and no brake issues.

as for the turn signals...auto cancel...hahah...yeah that doesn't work anymore. Would be a nice feature to get working but not too concerned with it.

front tire was brand new prior to storage...dk package arrived yesterday with the new rear tire and perty new k&n air filter. ...as far as the looks of this bike...who cares...it runs 100%...idles......starts every time...hauls ass....judging by posts...most people are happy if these bikes start.lol...I love my fugly bike

I have not seen any LED signals (other than for trucks/trailers) that were DOT-endorsed. Good bet yours will not be either and will be hard to see day or night. As an alternative you could look for Yamaha turn signals that were OEM for the dual sports (XT600E, XT225/250, TW200, etc.). These were smaller than the XJ-series, more triangular in shape, but still used bulbs for more light and are DOT-approved (and a Yammie part :D ).
