I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times. So that would make this one thousand and one!

Rode the bike to work today. Put about 50 miles on it. On the way home I filled the tank again, and it looks like I'm getting about 42mpg. That seems low to me.

    What is "average"?

    1982 Maxim 550

getting "into it a bit" makes a hugedifference on mileage on my bike.
    if i ride 65-70 and below i get 42mpg....if i ride it like i stole it i 32-33mpg.
i would assume it's the same on your bike

i get about 30-35, but im usually pretty hard on the gas to get away from the other cars at a stop light because people out here are really inattentive and space is my biggest ally.

hey Bill...without searching all of your posts, can you tell me what you have done with yours to try to improve the mpg's? have you gone through the carbs and the yics and sync'd/colortuned?....that is some horrible mileage brutha!

I average 45 mpg, everything stock but the k&n filter the PO put in it. Have gotten 50+ when I'm easy on her and stick to the speed limits.

I just got this bike about a month ago.
I took the carbs apart they were very clean.
Bench synced and messed with the mix screws (it ran so much better after this I stopped messing with it to RIDE !!!! : D )

I dont have a colortune... YET
I am slowly acquiring the tools of the trade.
I finally received vacuum gauges from jcwhitney yesterday.
Still looking for a good deal on the yics tool and colortune. ( I have the plans to build one )

Im just enjoying the ride for now. Maybe work on it again when I start wanting more performance and MPG.

I've seen a range on here from <30 (BAD) to >45 (GOOD) and higher. I think average is around 40-50 mpg.
