That's real low in the rear. Did you just cut the springs off the stock shocks?

i disassembled the shocks and welded'em then cut the springs down and welded a ring to one end to hold it flat then welded the cap back on. i think they look good. kill the kidneys at 60 or so lmao

so far everything on the bike is what was on it when i got it. i just hacked it up and made it my own :)

Very cool lookin, so the shocks no longer absorb shock? You welded them solid? I like the look better than struts that for sure. I am a shock kinda guy

so i got bored lastnight and hacked up the guage cluster.....

its just the speedo side now with the odometer twister thingy cut off and i covered the odometer up with a piece of black plastic.
also hid most of the wiring only wires left going into the head light are for the front brake light and the headlight. i tucked em up under the tank after re-rapping them fit under there almost perfect lol. is there gunna be a issue wiring the light direct without the high/low beam switch? i got it wired to low beams right now. ill take some better pics soon as this rain quits.

i bought a xbox 360 for 50$ and put it on craigslist to trade for a ps3 . then when the ps3 got old ran a ad sayin i had a ps3 and wanted a 82 xj. i trade stuff all the time, specially game consoles.

the jokey shift is a pain when stopping, mainly cuz when i put my feet down the factory pegs jam into my ankles. need a shorter bolt so i can get rid of em. and get the rear break controls hooked up. other then that, its a pretty comfortable ride now with the new shift and bar . plus when u roll up next to someone at 65 on the highway and drop it down a gear and crack it it looks badass hahahaha.

throttle cable i had to cut about a half inch off the housing of the cable at the carb end and shave down where the cable hooks inside the throttle assemby.
as for the clutch lever and stuff its all factory yamaha stuff it came with. the clutch cable i havent cut down but once my new lever gets here next friday ill shorten it then make a jig and put a new end on the cable. cant be much difrent then making fishin weights. this is prolly what ill do or near to it. http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=26182.html

Sounds like you knew what you wanted and went there! Liked what you did with the seat until the last pic (why the bungee cord?). Is it the stock seat just cut down? Could you explain some (REALLY lacking in imagination  )...

stock seat i cut down and shaped the foam.i just cut the back foot or so of the seat off then shaved down the foam and repulled it.i liked the lines off the seat the way they came down from the tank then swooped back up into the fender. the bungie cord is just there till i weld the seat brackets to the frame. when ya shift it slides back about 1/2 inch and it annoyed me so its just a temp bungie.

still cant find a suitable place to mount the ignition......

not sure what ya mean, but the throttle is a 20$ cheapo for a harley i ordered from the local cycle shop. and the handle bars are just a thick straight pipe i found , i made a small shim to make the throttle mount tight to the bars tho, it was only a hair difrence between the bars and the throttle . plan to get some tube stock and weld up a better set soon. $$$ scarce around here tho lol .

wheres a good place to mount the ignition?
maybe ill just hack that off too................lol

My ignition right now is just a wire that I can touch to the frame to complete the circuit. I need to look in to how to "fix" that. I've actually thought about hooking up my ignition to something like a telegraph receiver, so I could press down on it to start my bike and then as soon as I let go a spring keep the "hot" lead off the ground. Sort of like how it is in this pic http://www.textually.org/textually/arch ... graph1.jpg , and mounting that contraptio hidden to the underside of the frame.

Can I get a close up pic of the throttle then? I want to get an idea of what you did.

@ mestnii ill take some pics when it stops raining.

@ schooter actually it idles lower then that usually, i had to turn the idle up a little after i disconnected the chock cable or it wont start . fires then just cranks till u chock it. its at like 650-700rpm now i think
once it warms up i can turn the idle down to about 500 or so before it starts to stall. i could be off tho, been awhile since i had a tach on'er.

i think it says somewhere on the bike that factory idle is 1700rpm lol

almost positive the inside of the right side cover says 1700rpm but i painted over it
when i got it it idled at 1600rpm

but the speedos about 20mph slow so im sure the tach wasnt dead on..

Just as a side note, I remember it being discussed that even though your bike can idle that low it's bad to do so as the oil doesn't circulate well and something doesn't get lubricated properly. At least that's the excuse I use when my idle runs high :) But really though, low idles are bad, too right?

id guess to low isnt too good since when she idles to low i hear a slight tink . but its a 50$ bike and low is its attitude :)

dosnt spend to much time at a low idle anyhow. just sounds cooler when u stop and the idle drops to just barely alive.

quite frankly, i'd be proud to have an idle that low, because it has to be properly synched and tuned to be able to do so and stay running

I've been trying to find a better place to mount the ignition too. Thinking about just hiding a 2-position switch under the tank somewhere.

i hacked it off and used the original on/off switch from the old throttle and remounted behind the fram rail on the side. cant even see it. and sinc all u have to do to hotwire these things is twist 3 wires its just as safe lmao

has anyone removed the chock assembly from the bars? i need to make a lever for the chock on the carb not sure how i wanna go about it .

Awesome, thanks for the close up. That looks like an interesting way to rig the throttle tube and the cable. I can't quite tell what that metal clamp is though, did you get it at a hardware store somewhere?

no clamps, the chrome part is the throttle. and the tubing on the cable was bent that way for the old bars id imagin, had dirt bike bars on it when i got it, not sure wtf the kid was thinkin lmao. in the last pic u can see the edge of the shim i had to use to get the throttle to fit.

new clutch lever comes in tomorrow :) and i just capped the frame ends up today came out nice i think. the closer i get to it being the way i want the more i wanna strip it down to bones and rebuild it lol
started polishing the motor today to F**kers gunna shine

I bought a dirtbike throttle (yz400) for .99 and drilled a hole in it and it works fine, i'm gonna have to use a little jb weld to keep the plastic tube in there

IM not feeling that as a tank but to each is there own. I'd try a mini keg or something, but that jacks up the lines of ur bike badly.

nah, it would be cut and trenched to sit on the rail better, along with splitting the bracket down the center and welding a mounting plat to the frame, would sit roughly 3 -4 inches lower and forward about a inch or so. the pressure guage would make a nice spot to mount the tach or speedo. prolly a tach. i was just setting it up there and took a pic for S&G's.

progress lmao. if i can ever get my hands on a welder they'll be lotsa progress. as it sits, till i get new bars i cant do much, need the bars to know where to put the shift and forward controls. and i need a welder to fix the frame once i hack it up lol. so once i get one its on.as for now i just tare around on it. been working on it in the ally way since i got it need to find a garage soon also. hate apartments.

ill take some pics of the shift soon as i got a chance.
