So I go to put my new plate on my new-to-me 82 Maxim.
There are no nuts/bolts to hold on plate.
So I run to autozone and pick up some "theft proof" bolts. They are about 3x to long.
So later I run to walmart to get some standard stainless steel nut/bolts from the "plate" section. They are about 1.5-2x to long. I tried to put them on with some washer/nuts as spacers. Being dark and w/o needle nose pliers I'm giving up till tomorrow.

SO what's my next step? Run to Menards and see if they have some bolts even shorter I could use... Sheez...

BTW the bolts are hitting the hard plastic that is directly behind the plate holder bracket.

If that was the worst of our problems, life would be sweet.

If I had a vice atm I'd pull out my dremel and cut them down...

At my old job I could have probably fabricated just about anything from scrap parts and metal and bent/weld/grind/etc... sigh

just put the bolt in from the trunk side facing away from the bike and lock it in place with a nut on the other side then break out your coping saw, or use a channel locks.

or more easily, just get any random nut/bolt combo that will fit the holes in your plate from the hardware store and use those.

Go to a dedicated hardware store to buy the correct length bolts.
