Until you transfer that from AZ to MD. Then it's $45 for your car license and another $45 to get them to print the M on it on the same day.

$99/year state minimum with the gecko. When the insurance woman tried to apply a discount to my 99/yr policy she couldn't, state of OK not only has mandatory minimum coverage but also mandatory minimum price. I remember at 18 yrs old, no riding experience and my old honda cb900 it was $56/yr. Now 33/yrs, 14 yrs riding, xj650, price almost double. Go figure!

I actually agree and LIKE the graduated licensing. There are too many accidents where people get on these machines with no experience, or only self-taught with bad habits and no real training. Since it started it has drastically reduced motorcycle accidents in general here in Manitoba, both for rider fault and not. However there are still the accidents for those who have NOT completed the training. I don't give a damn if someone wants to jump on ANY bike without training and go kill themselves. But if you have the potential to take anyone with you, or cause anyone else harm? Yeah, you should have training, and a license.
I just wish there was a reduced or at least more realistic insurance rate here. Maybe greater discounts for years of clean riding/levels of training.

Which (US) brand actually offers a GOOD amount of medical in case I (and/or rider) get hurt.

Checked Progressive and Geiko online - Both barely have any medical coverage. One of them only offered a max of $2000... That wouldn't even pay for ER bills let alone major medical needs...

Maybe I'm not familiar enough with insurance - The wife usually pays for it for our cages LOL

If you have medical insurance through your work, a seperate policy, or whatever then you shouldn't need extra just for the bike. Unless you have a high deductable on your heath insurance then the medical on the bike insurance could be used to pay that.

It'd be good if we could leave the politics out of it... :) it seems to vary a lot by state/province and everyone's individual situation anyway!
Graduated licensing is a good idea. If I already knew what I was doing, I could get a 90-day learner's license in Nova Scotia for $10 plus an easy multiple choice and a basic skills test. But I shelled out $450 for the training course because it's the smart thing to do. Result:
30 days learner's and then I get a full license, no restrictions. $296/yr ($25/month) for liability insurance (Primmum) as a mddle-aged experienced car driver with no claims, tickets or demerits. I didn't ask for full coverage...
    Gas is $1/litre here ($3.79/gal).
    -D.

    $96/yr through Progressive for liability

Bodily Injury & Property Damage: $50,000 person/$100,000 accident/$25,000 property damage

Uninsured/ Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury: $25,000 person/$50,000 accident

(as you know you can't get coverage on your own medical expenses).

I'm over 30 and have a fairly clean record, MSF/Abate graduate discount, multi policy discount. No collision or comprehensive on the bike.

The Company has less to do with it than the PROFILE of the person applying for the Insurance.

Factors used by most Ins. Co.'s:
Age, Driving Record, Model and Displacement, Intended Usage, along with Deductibles for Collision, Fire and Theft and Replacement Costs.
Other users and Limits for Liability all get weighted.

Under 25 in Massachusetts is Assigned Risk.
