I have a new tank and want to sand and paint my side covers to match.
My question is what grade sandpaper would be safe to get a good surface to paint on?

Then what type of paint would be safe to use on the plastic?

    I appreciate any help :)

Never use anything coarser than 400 grit, unless you commit to filler coats and block sanding. 600 wet is good.

Matching a new tank? you mean Factory new paint?
I've read that Chacal has some paint now.
I would love to match the red/maroon metal flake on my 750, but it's aftermarket, and I don't have a paint code.
I need to paint my accessories at least a close color.

Not matching to a new tank, I got a good used one to replace mine which had some small pin holes.

The tank is a nice silver color. So I will have to try and match the covers up as close as I can.
